I've been going through threads all night and morning and have read that CH's are more common in men than women.  I haven't seen anything about race though.  Do they seem to occur more in a particular race, or is it about the same for everyone?  I'm wondering because I have a 6 year old son who's half Filipino.  I'm wondering what his chances of getting this are.

Interesting question, I've never seen a thread on this. I think back to conventions and get togethers I've been to, nothng stands out, sadly, I think most races were represented.

It was my one big hope that Gavin wouldn't get this some day.  I can't stand the thought of him in that kind of pain.  I wish I knew my dad's medical history and if anyone on his side experienced this.  I'll never know though. 

Statistically, the chances are infitismally small that anyone will get it. The chance of a direct relative getting it are twice that, but it's still an infitismally small chance. We do have several parent sibling pairings on the board.

Two ways to look at it, I'm with you in that I held my breath as my 2 daughters hit puberty, watching like a hawk for any signs of CH, dreading them getting hit.  Neither appears to have been hit with it. But if a child of a CH'er does develop them, what a blessing to have a parent who recognizes it, and has already paved the road for them.

In the 25+ years I've been reading medical literature on CH I've never seen race or ethnicity mentioned.

My neurologist told me that people born near that equator do not have CH.  Something about the body clock not being affected there....

I know of no one in my family that has Cluster's.  I have two son's ages 14 and 20 and I hold my breath every time they say they have a h/a.  Thank God as of yet they have not had any symptoms of having them.  I developed mine at age 17.  I'm not a drinker nor smoker.

I read somewhere -- I can't remember where.  I've done so much reading over the last couple of days -- that they were genetic.  Maybe that isn't right.  I got my first one when about 8 years ago when I was 21.  I've never been much of a drinker (I think I have 5 gin and tonics a year), but I was a smoker at the time.  I quit 7 years ago when I got pregnant.  Thank God.  You know, I've never stopped craving the stupid things. 

There indeed was a thread on this subject many years  ago on the old board, however nothing was settled on the matter. 

At one convention where Dr. Goadsby spoke someone asked that question of him and his answer was NO.  Race or ethnic background has nothing to do with CH and lack of evidence could be merely a lack of access to computers.   It still remains a male dominated condition regardless of race.

That is not to say that WDGCH  for the BobP and Marc's of this site who would like to pounce on what I just said.    ;D ;D

Nope.  That's my beautiful apricot Pueblan milk snake, Miranda.  I have 24 snakes. :)  They're my world.  They're pretty much my family besides my son.  My boas are my favorites, but the milks are a close runner-up.  When I was having an attack the other night, it helped me for a little bit to focus on the snakes moving around in their enclosures. :)  Thank God for animals!

Race only matters if you win.  In the long run humans are all of one race.  We have minor genetic differences, but our blood is differenciated by type, not color.  We are all of the human race.  JMHO

Beautiful snake, I have a soft spot for them. Had a rat snake years and years ago named Naag who would ride around on my wrist like a bracelet, he was great. Also had a Jacksons chameleon named Monty who lived on the ficus tree in our living room for years. Lucas and I used to have quite the houseful, including 3 litterbox trained house rabbits, but we've downsized to just the dog, 2 cats, and a live plant fish tank. I do miss the reptiles sometimes though...

Thank you so much.  She's a sweetie.  I've never owned a rat.  I just have boas, ball pythons, milks, FL kings, a hognose, a pine, and a carpet python.  Besides them, I have 6 lizards, 4 toads, a tortoise, a tarantula, and a cat.  I haven't been medicated for my depression in years, and I think it's because my animals are like therapy for me.  They're such a joy.  I take the reptiles to schools and teach kids about them.  I also make Youtube videos to teach people they're not monsters.

I'm sorry!  I could talk about my snakes forever! :)

Well I'm confused (not hard to do) I read that although migraines were hereditary and did run in families Cluster's were not.

I might be wrong.  I have done SO much reading over the last few days and from many sites.  I can't remember where I read that.  It might have been Wikipedia. ?  But I definitely read somewhere that it runs in the family.  However, the source may not have been reliable.

There are definitely genetic components and families that are more prone to clusters. To date, researchers have suggested that genes related to the circadian clock and ion channels (like calcium channels) are most likely involved. I personally suspect that variations in the serotonin-2 receptor can also be an issue.

Race might also be a factor in the sense that some races (like some families) have somewhat greater or lesser risk. In the end, it doesn't matter what race (or gender or age) a person is ... either they have clusters or they do not.  Studying the rates in different groups might help provide a clue or two that points to the causes, but beyond that, probably not much significance.

I'm wondering if this cycle was brought on by taking 5http.  It works on Serotonin.  Why I did this is beyond me since I normal stay clear of anything that plays with that.

It was suggested to me to help with weight control.  Always listen to that inter voice when you are about to do something.  Mine said you better not.  I didn't listen. :(
