Title: Coming off verapamil
Post by wimsey1 on Jan 28th, 2011 at 7:37am
I saw my neuro this past week, and he wants to start titrating me off verpamil. I'm currently at 400mg/day, and his thinking was: either I'm out of cycle (for me, since I'm still getting about 1 hit/week) or the verpamil is effective at its current levels and is controlling the cycle. He thinks by coming off slowly (down 40mgs every two weeks) I'll know. Yeah, I'll know all right. I agreed since I also want to discover if I am losing my chronic status, but...I really, really don't want to go back to where I was last April, and for the past 23 years. Crossing my fingers and praying. I'd like your prayers, too. God bless! lance

I don't consider my cycle 'over' until I've gone a few weeks without a hit.  I'm not sure how a chronic would measure that though.

Reducing that slowly may be ok, there will be signs if you need to stop decreasing or increase again without taking you back to the hard times.  You may find 400mg/day is not needed and getting by at this time can be done with 240mg or so, more or less.  Completely off verap in time would be nice, but see where this leads.

When chronic, I've found there have been times of higher and lower activity.

Good luck Lance.  I hope you lose that status too.

I'm with Kevin on this.  Here's hoping you can get off and STAY off!  Praying to that end.

Thoughts heading your way that you'll be able to manage this transition well. I can imagine that going from your current comfort zone where your medication is effective to one where it may or may not won't be easy.

Thank you, everyone. Prayers we may all be pain free, today, tomorrow and always. I'll let all ya'll know how this goes. I might not be the only one who is venturing into the land of what if I stopped taking meds?  We hear what isn't working, but not so much on what happens when meds are working, and it's time to back down. Blessings. lance
