Title: Just out of interest (nothing to do with clusters) Post by suzieq6343 on Jan 31st, 2011 at 2:09pm
Hi All
I'm just curious to know how much you pay for a litre of diesel in the far flung corners of the world that this forum covers. I got caught short (in the diesel department)! today and the 1st garage I came to was charging £1.43 a litre, which works at $2.27. >:( Luckily the 2nd garage was £1.38 but at the bottom of a hill so with fumes and gravity I made it!!!! :D An 80 mile round trip to the office daily and 1000 miles work miles a month means peddle power is not an option!!!! ::) |

Litres and diesel . . . .hmmmm. . . .my brain doesn't work like that. ;)
I can tell you I paid $3.03 a gallon of regular unleaded yesterday at the pump. Ranges from $2.99 to $3.10 depending where you stop in the Milwaukee (WI, USA) metro area. I should also mention that we here in WI are required by LAW to have ethanol added as 10% of our fuel. Damn corn growers . . . . :( |

I'd be happy to share.
Diesel is running about $3.29/US Gal. in the midwest. I'll let you do the conversions. |

Per gallon, Jamestown, NY is 3.23 for gas, and 3.30 for diesel. Towns near Buffalo have about the highest prices in the state.

$3.14 per gallon here.
P.S., just checked the conversion and 1 gallon= 3.785 liters. So, what you're paying is about $8.59 a gallon? :o |

Well, you figure though Joe, the US is spread far and wide for the miles we have to travel just to go to work, or the grocery store. Not everyone lives in sardine cans in a country the size of Nevada (if that). ;) |

I just filled up on saturday @ 3.69 (diesel).....BTW, the 76 station that i go to is on average .10-.15 cents cheaper per gallon than all the other stations in the L.A. area (unless you go to Gomers station ;D ;D ;D)

Current prices in Oz
Where I live Karratha: ULP $1.508/litre = $6.85/gal Diesel $1.488/litre = $6.73/gal In the city Perth: ULP $1.306/litre = $5.94/gal Diesel $1.407/litre = $6.40/gal The Aussie $ & US $ are about on parity at the moment so no allowance made for exchange rate. When I drive to Perth in a couple of weeks time it will cost around $400 to do the 1530 kilometre one way trip. Beats walkin I guess but still cheaper than the Brits ;) Cheers Barry |

Careful with conversions. A gallon US is different to a gallon in the rest of the world.

Title: Re: Just out of interest (nothing to do with clusters) Post by crosspescara on Feb 1st, 2011 at 10:20am
about £1.35 per lt in my part of uk. 1.35*3.78 = £5.10 per us gal, * 1.60 (exch rate) = $8.16 u.s.
I cover 35/40thou miles a year - expensive business going to work which is why everybody drives small hatchbacks. Mercs and BM's have virtually disappeared from the UK motorways (proper name for a freeway). |

Yeah, If you dont mind over crowded, over priced unclean transport that dosnt go to where you want it to go. Thats always late and has ticket gestapo breathing down your neck every two seconds. |

Current NZ price for petrol is about NZ$2 per litre, which works out about US$5.85 per US gallon.
There are still plenty of people driving large cars around, although there is a trend towards smaller cars. |

got a bee in my bonnet over uk public transport, unfortunatly spent 12 years communting in and out of london.
Several years ago we had a short break in Italy. Was about an hour and half drive to the airport parked the car there and off we flew. When we returned to the airport I discovered that I had stupidly lost the car keys. Our options were 1) get a taxi, 2) get a coach. 3)get the train. The cheapest solution by a massive margin (about half the cost of all the above) was to hire a car at the airport, take the family home, pick up the spare keys and return to the airport. |

Totally agree Garry! Looked at getting a train to London short notice..... £230!!! and had to stand most of the way!!!Just have drive a bit more economically!!! and make the diesel last as long as possible.. think I need to buy a shed and build my own distillery!!! :D |

Hi Suzie
using public transport is a pretty miserable experience isn't it |
Title: Re: Just out of interest (nothing to do with clusters) Post by Linda_Howell on Feb 1st, 2011 at 7:17pm
Sorry Susie, I had no idea of how bad public transportation was there.
How about car-pooling like many do in California when they have at least an hour commute? One person has a larger car and picks up several folks who are going to the same general area. Everyone chips in for gas (Petrol) and the driver pays nothing for his time and wear-and-tear. Makes everyones share of the cost for gas very manageable. |

Egad.....Gas downtown today was $3.32 a gallon.
