Title: A Quote for my Cluster Family
Post by Felicia on Feb 7th, 2011 at 10:23pm
Zero is a number in the way that Christ was a man. Aristotle, for one, did not believe in Zero. If no pain is possble, then another question-is no pain desirable? Does the absence of pain equal the absence of everything?

St Augustine, following Aristotle I believe, tried to demonstrate that evil (equivalent here to pain I think) was not an entity but rather the absence of good. I think this is problematic. It assumes that one can always choose the good even when others are the agency of evil. Not my experience, and not likely. Evil can grow in the vacuum of good but good and evil can also coexist, and do! Pain can be the result of evil; it can also serve as the signal for something going haywire, and as such, is a good thing. Still, we seek both the avoidance and extinction of evil and pain. That, too, is a good thing but good when pursued by means of non-destructive behaviors. Just my thoughts. lance

Wonder if a Packer fan was partying and feeling no pain, then the Pack wins the Superbowl.  Is that a negative number on the pain scale, like -9 or something?

"Can't find my car, but it was like EVERY CHEESEHEAD'S EVERYTHING, YEAH!!!!!!!!  A NEGATIVE NINE, MAN!!!"

No, doesn't seem to work in jubilance.

"Pain is life's way of letting you know your still alive." So NO and YES respectively.

Nice thinking.

How about a mute button (not an off button though!).
