Title: Verapamil side effects Post by Graemel on Feb 9th, 2011 at 7:41pm
Hi guys I am in NZ and recently started verapamil (120mg per day). I sumtimes get a feeling of nausea even though I take losec. Is this normal? The verapamil has reduced my CH hugely and I take around 5 cafergot tablest a week as back up. I was on 10 to 14 before.

Hi Graemel
Another kiwi here. I'm on 480mg per day (2 x 240) without any feeling of nausea, however there may be more than just the verapamil in play so I'd speak with your phamacist and doctor to see if there is a potential issue from all the medication your on along with any other medical issues. And 120mg per day is a fairly low dose as a preventive with 360-480mg per day being a common effective dose. Have you got oxygen to abort your CHs? I use it to kill off a CH in around about 6 minutes. |

Same as Mike here, none experienced. Haven't noticed nausea mentioned with verapamil before, just some constipation at higher doses.

Dittos above...as a user and as a concern. Check that out with a doc.

Thanks for the replies guys. So it may be something else that causes occasional low grade nausea. My doc says I can take 2 per day that would total 240gm which is still low by your accounts. I also take doxycycline for my rosacea (facial skin complaint) and use rosex gel after shaving. Other than that no other medications.

Doxycycline can definitely upset your stomach. It can also cause heartburn and esophageal ulcers.

The nausea has disappeared since I started eating something like toast before taking the verapamil. Interesting what you say about doxycycline but I have never had bad effects from it. I do take losec as well. I am permanent on doxy for rosacea and it helps a lot.
