You people back east are welcome to declare winter over any time now! :o I read where you're about to get hammered again. Keep the powder dry and the firewood piled high!

Dug twice at about sixteen inches, a bit drifty. It's a lot. Stopped for now. Snow-muffled quiet out there, nice.

Yesterday we had rain, snow, freezing rain, drizzle, and sleet. Today it's just snow.
I'm sick of it. :o |

Well, it's still winter here. Not like Potter's winter, but winter still. ;)
I'm more concerned about what happens next, frankly, than about what's happening now. There are massive amounts of water-rich, heavy snow in the mountains this year. Depending on how the runoff occurs (fast is bad) and whether or not we get heavy rains on top of the snow, there could be avalanches and flooding this spring. There are years when the freestone rivers come roaring out of the mountains like unstoppable freight trains, and cause incredible destruction. A mountain river in flood has to be seen to be believed. Guess we'll see what happens. Best, George |

It was in the mid 70s yesterday with sunshine and breezy conditions. We've got a cold front coming in and it's supposed to drop to the 60s., then back up to the 70s again.

All last week it was in the 40's and 50's and looked like spring. Snow melting, sun shinning. NIce. Then on sunday it dropped down to freezing and we got the snow, freezing rain, sleet, etc. It is nasty to drive in/on. I am praying for spring to come quickly. I am sick of winter and want to golf!!!

Record low temperatures were set across the region early Saturday.
National Weather Service offices in Billings and Glasgow reported that as of 7 a.m., at least seven communities had already broken or tied records for low temperature for Feb. 26 — Jordan at minus 34 degrees, Wolf Point minus 34, Malta minus 33, Miles City minus 31, Saco minus 30, Glasgow minus 30 (tie) and Glendive minus 27. Jamestown is just over 150 inches for the year and Syracuse has had more. Buffalo was less than 100 the other day. 150 for us isn't unusual though. Still, even I'm getting tired of all the exercise.

Gee, I almost hate to post this but....
We just spent the weekend in Columbia SC. The weather was glorious, and they are calling for a possible record breaker tomorrow of 84!. Got back home to Jamestown, NC today, temp is in the upper 70's. After weeks and weeks of being about zero - Sigh - life is good! Sandy |
Title: Re: Weather!!!! Post by Kevin_M on Mar 6th, 2011 at 11:39am
Gazing out the back window yesterday, mine and the several backyards in view all had low spots puddled from melted snow saturating the ground. A couple of robins were perched on a fence and flew through. Gettin' springy.
Woke later to three inches of blowing snow. But yep, spring is in the air, nobody was out shoveling; a resounding fuck it, I'm through with this crap. Some nice sun today, anyway. |

That's what I did on Saturday. Sorry, not enough to shovel, and certainly not enough to fire up the snow blower. It's melting, slow but sure. |

Rainy here. It's actually beginning to look a lot like early spring--no crocuses yet, but the male redwings have returned (haven't seen the females yet--they arrive later) and the yard has been hopping with robins.
All in all, it looks promising in Idaho's "banana belt" along the Snake. Still deep winter in the higher elevations, though. Best, George |

We got very tiny, soft balls of snow, not flakes. I can only think to call them sleet, but not sleet, which is more like icy rain that gets slushy and hale is harder, these are soft.
Mid-March so either soft-pedal lion or the start of lamb fleece. Is there something snowy called fleece? I don't know what it's called. |

Now you guys know why the birds have enough sense to fly SOUTH...
It's in the 65+ range in the mornings right now here and above 80 in the afternoons... I think we've had SPRING arrive already. Am putting the sweat shirts in the back of the closet and opening windows to air out the place from the winter freezes... Now the damn pollen is a different matter altogether... The trees have already started mating and everything is YELLOW and the old alergies are acting up, but it's warm... Guess ya just can't have everything... Joe, if ya gets cold - come on down to Texas... we'll warm ya up ... I'll leave the light on ... :-* |
