Title: How long did u try Omega3+D3, Kilowatt3 or Lic/Sk?
Post by lori_p on Mar 2nd, 2011 at 4:34pm
Hi there,

For those who have tried Batch's Anti-inflammatory regimen or the Kilowatt3 regimen, or even the Licorice/Skullcap regimen... how long did it take to see results?

I've been trying a combination of these 3 since Sunday, with no results, but I don't want to give up too soon.  I may also be combining too many things.  I'm guessing you all understand that urge when you are in pain to just throw everything at the wall just in case something sticks.

I stopped the licorice/skullcap last night & thinking I'll keep with the combo of the Omega 3 + D3 and Kilowatt3 for the next few days.

I'm just curious to see if anyone has a sense on when these started to work for them?  Or any suggestions?

Here is the regimen I'm trying:

Morning
260mg Cal Mag
1,000 mg Omega3
5,000 mg D3
1 B+C vitamin
1,000 mg Kudzu
300mg St. John's Wort

Afternoon
1,000 mg Omega3
5,000 mg D3

Evening
300mg Mag (CALM drink)
1,000 mg Omega3
5,000 mg D3
1,000 mg Kudzu
300mg St. John's Wort
9-12mg Melatonin

Thoughts?  I was also drinking a tincture mix of Licorice & Skullcap 3x a day, but yesterday decided to stop it.  No exact reason, just had a feeling it may not be helping.

As background: I started my cycle 3 weeks ago, and it has been peaking since last week, having 3 to 5 cluster headaches during the day and 3-5 at night, with most about 4-6 kip, and at least one 8/9 kip/day.  I've avoided going on Verapamil or using any other prophylactics, as I have concerns about side effects on those and I have not been to see a neurologist this cycle yet (going on Friday), just getting scrips through my GP.  I've been using O2, ice & Zomig (averaging 10mg/day) for aborts, with Red Bull sugar free during daytime aborts.

I'd love to see this regimen work like a Verapamil, reducing or stopping the cycle... just not sure how long to try it or if I should try something else.

Many thanks on any feedback!
Lori

Hi Lori...

I can't help you with any qualification really...
The peeps who DO know what they are talkin about are on their way!

But I have been taking two of the supplements recommended...
Bearing in mind I have come out of the worst of my cycle 2-3 weeks ago..I think it creeps in, goes loud and tails slowly...I still feel shit...,a drink will start a low CH everytime.
(does not happen when I am 'clear'...)

So here is my Newbie interpretation:

1 Tab 10,000iu of D-3 in the morning= more energy..cant fly yet, but noticeably more endurance.
1 Tab 400mg  of Skullcap at bedtime= better quality of sleep (boy do I need that!)
Will start on the Omega3 soon....

Had trouble tracking down the skullcap in the UK, had to order online!

And Lori, I have to ask, are you getting the flow rate recommended on here, for your O2?

Admire your determination here!

Respect

Gary

Hey Lori,

Great question and it's good to hear oxygen therapy is working for you.

From what I've pieced together from reports by others who are using it, the Omega3/D3 Calcium Citrate regimen is proving to be 75% effective in reducing the frequency and intensity of CH.  Nearly all who reported favorable results indicated a drop in frequency by 48 hours.  A few took longer.

I'm chronic and was knocking down four CH a night with oxygen therapy at flow rates ≥ 25LPM.  I had two CH the first night after starting on this regimen and was PF the second night.  I'm still PF, but that can also be due to the fact that the incidence of CH is low for folks over 60 and that I've just out aged the beast.

There's no way of determining the actual mechanism in play with this regimen's capacity to reduce the frequency and intensity of CH or if it is actually reducing the neurogenic inflammation associated with the pathogenesis of a CH or its triggering process without a lot of expensive research.

In trying to explain how this regimen was proving effective, I merely made an assumption based on the known facts that it can act as an anti-inflammatory and that neurogenic inflammation is part of the cluster headache syndrome.

If you think about it, the swelling and inflammation associated with a cut or scrape to the skin usually takes a two to three days to subside if there's no infection and no continued irritation.

In short, this anti-inflammatory regimen may be helping the body heal itself.  However, if the source of the inflammation is still present and strong, this regimen may not work as well or not at all.

Accordingly, you may want to try changing your diet.  A typical anti-inflammatory diet includes a well-balanced, varied diet that is high in colored vegetables and fruit and low in refined carbohydrates, sugar and undesirable fats, such as saturated fats.  A lot of folks have gone on gluten free diets to control other conditions.

As far as how long to stay on this regimen, my wife is on it to stay and she doesn't suffer from CH...  I intend to stay on it as well as both of us are experiencing a very pleasant boost in energy.

Hope this helps.

Take care,

V/R, Batch
