Title: surgery and clusters
Post by heretheyareagain on Mar 18th, 2011 at 12:57pm
has anyone undergone an unrelated surgery while having CH cycle?
I am scheduled for next month and just started a cluster cycle two days ago.  I'm curious to know how that will affect my headaches or if I should re-schedule.

Try searching the old messages and you should cover more ground.

The question arises from time to time so this approach will locate the few messages on the issue.

If memory serves, I don't think this is much of an issue here or in the medical literature which I scan.

Do let your doctors know that you have CHs, making sure that there will be no problems with you continuing to take your preventive. There should be no problems with having access to oxygen whilst in hospital, however you will almost certainly have to educate them about ensuring that it is high flow rate (15 or if possible 25lpm) and using a non-rebreather mask.

You don't mention what the surgery is, but if it is heart-related and there's a possibility you might receive nitroglycerine, just be aware that this medication is pretty much the closest thing to a universal trigger for CH that there is.

Best wishes,

George

I've had multiple surgeries during my CH cycle.

Just make sure O2 is available, that they have your abortives, etc.
