Title: They did a drug trial for episodic CH
Post by Tara Ann on Mar 23rd, 2011 at 7:50am
I was over at clinicaltrials.gov (I'm part of a study for another medical problem) and for the heck of it punched in headaches, all the while thinking it would only have trials/studys on the more common headaches.  I found a study that has been completed and on the 21st posted the results of the study.  Here's the link if you are interested in checking it out.

Looks like a phase III clinical trial of some version of hot pepper spray.  Completed in 2004, with no results posted.

Best,

George

Probably one of the most vague trials I've seen in a long time.

Hey Mike,

Thanks for pointing out Dr. Todd Rozen's Demand Valve Study of oxygen inhalation therapy for cluster headaches.  They are still accepting study participants.  Any CH're in the North East within driving distance of Wilkes-Barre, PA that wants to give this therapy a try should contact the Geisinger Center for Clinical Studies.

Other than the out of pocket travel expense for two trips for the induction exam and out-brief, the folks at Geisinger will provide everything you'll need at no cost and you walk away with an Rx for oxygen therapy to boot.

The link for this study is listed below:

If you decide it's not worth your time to participate or you're no longer in cycle, if you know any other CH'ers that live within driving distance from the CCS you think might be interested, give them a call or email...  Any help will do us all a lot of good as we need studies like this to prove oxygen therapy can be highly effective with very short abort times if the flow rate is high enough.  It will also help draw attention to our disorder and that is always a good thing.

Take care,

V/R, Batch

Well said Batch.
Unrelated to this thread but relevant, I have started to hand a copy of the OUCH letter to friends & colleagues to any Doctor, Chemist or o2 provider I deal with.
The look on their face is priceless & the recognition thereafter is well worth it, it gives them an insight into our condition they would otherwise not had before.

PF times
Cheers
Barry

Batch, thanks for that link!!! It will be really interesting to see what the results show.

Barry, good for you for showing the OUCH letter around. I've shown some people and generally they are amazed that a "headache" can be a condition so incredibly awful. It is a very informative piece.
