Title: Tired but happy weekend.... Post by BarbaraD on Mar 28th, 2011 at 7:17am
A big thanks to Dallas Denny and his lovely wife Cindy for the hospitality over the weekend at the Meet 'n Greet at their home.
Of course, it was an awkard affair and NO ONE had ANYTHING to talk about ;) - we just sat around being shy (for anyone who's new to this board, I'm putting you on royally - I don't think at anytime there were less than about 6 or seven conversations going on at once!). The weather was beautiful (no snow) and the guys played horseshoes (or something - the girls were too busy talking to notice). Food was great (Denny really is a good cook - I tried to adopt him, but Cindy said "no deal"). Jen and Phil arrived and were delightful - then Donna D and Steve got there (Lordy, the kids are GOOD - tried to bring them home with me, but Donna wouldn't deal either - gotta brush up on my dealing skills I guess :)). CH was discussed (imagine that!), and about 100 other topics. For those who've never attended a meeting of CHers - make an effort - it's a total experience. Oh and the highlight of the whole event -- BARBARA D GOT HER REAR GRADED!!! Yep, after all these years of being the official "bun tester" Phil turned the tables and "tested" Granny's rear.... ;D ;D Now I may just be driving to McAllen for an instant replay (most trill I've had in years - I think I could get Used to that -- Chuck eat your heart out!! ;D ;D ;D) All in all it was a great meeting. Wish ALL of you could have been there.. But not to worry -- we TALKED about you all, so you were there in spirit... Thanks again Denny and Cindy.. Now I've got to rest up for the next one -- Takes a lot out of an old lady... :-* |

Happy to see you've gotten past that shy thing since the last time we've met.
Have you heard from Edna or Roxy lately? Steve G |

I got a few pictures, but Photobucket is being a PITA. Donna D and Steve took a lot of pictures.
Yup we had a great weekend...thanks again Denny and Cindy. Cindy and I also joined in a game of horseshoes, but her and Denny whipped Phil and I. That woman got two ringers :o Ya'll should've seen the look on Granny's face when Phil "graded her rear". It was priceless and put the rest of us into a fit of giggles. |

Indeed it is. I might be able to post the three decent pictures I have by next week, LOL!!! Either my computer is running way slow or Photobucket is...actually it's probably a combo of both. |

That silly little MUTT was "playing" me BIG TIME... She came to Granny (a big softie) and snuggled up so nicely (oh yes, I was her new best friend) and then her DADDY came in sight and she forgot ALL ABOUT ME!! the little hussy! :)

Give it time, I lived in Houston a few years. When I moved back, my brother asked if I was going to be talking like that from now on up here. After a while, there's clear distinctions between east and west Texas and them Louisiana parts. It gets easier to place where people have been. Houston was a boomtown back then, people came from all over. Years earlier I'd flown to McAllen airport to get to South Padre Island for a few days. A senior class trip from Oklahoma stayed in the same hotel. A crazy few rounded up all the sand crabs they could find on the beach and brought them to the pool. Wasn't up early to see the reaction the next day, we stayed up late. Cool kids, taught me to pick them up. Okie's seemed more front teeth pronouncing than Texas. I still wear the short black leather jacket I bargained for across the border at Matamoras 30 years ago. Timeless style. ;) |

I love South Padre...it's one of my most favorite things about being down here. We haven't been there in quite awhile. I hope we'll be heading there soon.
We've been here just over a year now and I have no desire to cross the border right now. It's way to violent down there. Maybe even more so than the media lets on and now their taking away the National Guard that they've had down here since last June. It's a shame...I would love to do some shopping. |
