Title: 30 yrs ago...today...
Post by jon019 on Mar 30th, 2011 at 10:25pm
...I was working on an island in Alaska (like...a...dog).
No news, no fresh fruits and veggies...it was two days before I heard President Reagan was shot.

To this day...I CANNOT miss the news...or forgo fresh
produce.....just.....can't.

Thought I had seen every angle of that assassination attempt...but saw a new one today...and was floored.

Where do we get these people?...I dunno....Secret Service Agent Jerry Parr could NOT have been quicker....milliseconds, and the President was in the car.
I am saddened by the necessity for these men and women...I am eternally grateful that they are so willing and able. Our troops ....the same.

He was MY President...politics be damned....as I couldn't care less (which used to annoy my Father immensely)...We are a nation of laws, and reason, and compromise, and civility...at least I hope so.

I'm remembering a shining moment...actually, I don't think I'll ever forget.

Best,

Jon

Jon, what you just said is almost the same thing my Dad said when he walked in after Kennedy had been shot.  Dad HATED Kennedy for welshing on the Cubans at the Bay of Pigs, but he was crying when he walked in.  When I asked why he said, "He was still my president."  I've never forgotten that and try to apply it to each man who has been in the Oval Office as much as I have loathed some of them personally.

I miss Reagan.  Whether you agreed with him or not at least you knew where he stood, whether it was popular or polled well or not.

Jerry
