Dr. Fred Sheftell the director of New England Center for Headaches passed away on Monday April 11, 2011. :(

He was a man who touched thousands of lives including mine and our very own Rori's (lionsound) as well as a few others here that I don't recall.

Dr. Sheftell was not only a an amazing doctor who was world renowned for treatment of headaches but an amazingly sweet and compassionate man who looked at us "clusterheads" as true warriors and there was not a thing he wouldn't do or support for our relief.

He will be missed terribly.

Hey Edub..

I know how much he meant to everyone - especially Rori. He was a larger than life being to clusterheads, and I'm sorry and sad to hear this news.

P.S. Jerry, please send it to his office anyway - I'm sure his loved ones and office would be touched to know how much he meant to everyone and the impact he had on people's lives.

This is a huge loss. He was a compassionate doctor who helped in any way he could. He did a lot of work with OUCH in the past and was an advocate for all sufferers.

My heart goes out to his family, staff and patients who knew and loved him. He will be missed.

Oh my gosh, no way! How sad! :(

My condolences to all who knew and loved him. I wholeheartedly appreciate everything that he has done for the CH'ers who had him as their physician. He will definitely be missed...

I received an email this morning from the American Headache Society about his passing - and I was so very sad to read it. He was a phenomenal person. I was lucky to have met him a few years ago at one of the scientific meetings. He will be incredibly missed.

After too long a period of time trying his best to treat me, my doctor sent me to a neuro, who patiently sat there as I told him a long story of losing against whatever this is I have. He said he may think I have cluster headaches - something unknown to me. I was glad he may know what this is, but I had a puzzled, inquiring look. He opened a book by Dr. Sheftell to cluster headaches and handed it to me to read while he left the room.

I was amazed as I read exactly what was happening to me. The doctor returned and I said, "This is it. This is exactly it."

It did seem to be written with a very good understanding of the pain and description of symptoms. I was so glad to pinpoint this mystery, reading Dr. Sheftell was my first big eye-opener to this world of clusters and treatment.

I attended the funeral today. There wwas easily over 5 maybe 600+ people there. Several ulogies including professionals from the headache community. Doctors who have provided service for us from all over the world including Sweden were there. It was incredible.

This man has touched the lives of thousands like I have never seen before and is looked upon as beyond an angel.
It was a beautiful ceremony an extremely emotional yet uplifting as it was a tribute to a wonderful man.

It was an honor to have not only been treated by him but to have been in his company. He made us feel very important and showed us how to live life. Not your typical doctor.

He'll be missed

I'm absolutely dumbfounded....

I apparently missed something monumental while away on spring break with the kids.

Dr. Fred Sheftell was a most incredible, caring, compassionate and amazing man. He went above and beyond in his aid to CH sufferers. He was such a strong advocate in the world of headaches. Working with him was a real joy and pleasure - he always made sure that you never felt beneath him. He did so much for CHers and for OUCH.

On top of being an incredible doctor and professional, he was also a very talented musician, and his band was a pleasure to listen to. The Triptan song still makes me giggle.

He will be sorely missed by the entire headache community.

I received a letter from NECH with this sad news.

RIP, Dr. Sheftell.

He was the best! He truly cared about "us", and helped me tremendously. And who else would perform music videos about CH and put them on YouTube? Only Dr. Fred, with his many talents.

CH.com + Dr. Fred = The best support and care I've ever received.

I had not seen that video before. One of the others he did could have been me in the video. Almost had sympathy pain on that one! I think I'll be using that as an intro to CH for those who have no clue.
