Title: how vocal are you during a hit Post by chopmyheadoff on Apr 14th, 2011 at 6:55am
Hi . I was speaking to a pal of mine about how we act during a hit.
If i get woken by one in the night then i slip out of bed and go on the cool sofa and kind of press my neck into it with my ass in the air lol .. I also moan and swear quite loudly and hyperventilate etc etc - quite a loud and full on experience .. however, surprisingly to me - when my pal gets woken from sleep by the beast he sits up in bed quietly next to his partner and suffers in silence and makes himself sit still until the hit is over/aborted .. so this made me wonder the degree of everyones dance lol ?? :D |

It depends for me. I don't really think about it per se, some of the stuff just happens. For example, I end up hitting myself in the temple with the TV remote when I have a mid-level hit.
For worse hits, I'll rock in place and squeeze a pilllow against my face or press my palm into my eye socket. Either way I usually don't say much of anything, save for an occassional whimper or 2. |

Depends on a couple of things......when I am I tend to create obscene phrases never before heard by human ears.

I'm a largely silent sufferer as well...
Rocking with one palm against my eye socket is my regular position during a hit. |

I'm quiet, too. I want to be alone and don't touch me. I hate it when I start to cry. That doesn't happen anymore though with o2. Now I usually rock in time with my breathing.

I sit, press my forehead and back of my neck and jiggle my legs but am pretty silent occasionally moaning and sighing and whimpering. That was before Oxygen. :)

Before oxygen - during bad hits I'd be crying, moaning and groaning, unable to sit still, rocking, rolling on the floor and more over 45-90 minutes.
With oxygen - sat with my oxygen mask, hyperventiliating, maybe crying for a high kip and holding my head for perhaps 6 minutes. I wonder why I like oxygen so much? |

I'm very vocal when I dance as well. Mostly moaning begging and crying, standard stuff. However back when I first started dancing with the beast(middle school) my mom always encouraged me to sit as still as possible, and to this day it still seems to help me to try and pacify myself. I can't really sit still, but I can get to a point of mild shuddering and leg thrashing.
I find that concentrating on sitting still helps me focus on something and push the pain to the edge of my consciousness. Same with moaning. It doesn't really lessen the pain, but it seems to help to try and concentrate on something else as impossible as it is. |

My Wife tells me I'm a mutterer. The bad ones get me out of bed and pacing up and down for a while then I lay in the bath (empty) with my neck on the cold rim. Then I end up swearing whilst holding my in head in my hands.
I can never stay still with a CH and my legs are always moving |

I'm a pacer usually with under the breath expletives , if the situation allows loud Rock to try and take my mind off the pain ( it doesn't work though, but it is as much company as i want ) .

My husband is a fairly silent sufferer too. But I suspect, if there weren't kids in the house, he would probably be more vocal. When a hit starts to escalate I will notice as his feet start moving. Next step is usually curled up in the corner of our bath room with ice packs. If it gets worse he will usually go down stairs and pace in circles around the living room, sometimes for hours, as the pain is to great to allow him to sit. This last cycle was the first time he had Sumatriptan to use for the the bad hits. But we also believe it may have extended his cycle substantially.

I'm a silent sufferer...well try to be!
I try to lie still... but I struggle to do that and I find that I have to exert as much pressure as humanly possible onto my right eye which usually means my head on a pillow and my bum in the air :-[ :-[ I also mutter profanities that would curl a dockers hair!!! |

Years ago I would yell, hit myself, break walls, etc. Now I'm as silent as I can be, except a few gasps, moans.
I hide whenever possible, don't touch me, talk to me, or even look at me. My wife knows if the door is shut, leave it. Full blown hits last 2 hrs for me, I sit and rock, and continue to hit the O2 off & on, helps me with the pain, and can still abort the attack. Don |

I'm silent - which makes people think I'm brave...the idiots ;)
But my wife keeps on kicking me out of bed for 'fidgeting', thinking I just have insomnia. Heh. |

I pace and cuss like a sailor, then realize I need to calm myself, and that helps a little. I breathe in deep then moan when I let it out. I almost get into a trance trying to focus.

I always feel like I want to scream, but the sounds can't come out because it feels like the pain is blocking it. Sometimes I'll whimper a bit, but that's about as much as I can muster.

I take a meletonin hour before bed, then when the demon comes he janks me outa my deep sleep,so i am awake now but not really, its more like a animation,as i am totally dizzy and not really awake by choice, sit up in the bed end get that chin right down as far as it can go.The hands then roam my head in search of illusive pressure points,as the revs begin to climb the moaning and rocking starts. Not long and i am outa be on the floor, back on the bashing my head against the wall. Then it wrestles me back to the floor, the couch the bed.moan, wine, curse, begging god and jesus, then cursing, then begging.hands not leaving the head, feeling, pressing for maybe a second of relief, oooo what bliss that second of pf was, back to moaning and rocking...i find myself in a state of disbelief and even denial, but the fight must go on,as the demon subsides i see myself back in bed sitting up,wet with sweat, shivering of the cold till i pass out again.....

Pre-O2 I would pace, palm pressed against my eye, and have a one-way conversation with the Beast e.g. "OK point taken...please bugger off now" or being cocky in the midst of my agony like "ha ha ha...is THAT all you've got???" Nowadays with K5 or higher I hit the O2 and shut the hell right up. For minor hits I usually pace and/or hit the shower and sing or hum. Roy Orbison's "Only the Lonely" (..dum dum dum dum-a-dee-wah..) and Zeppelin's "Your Time is Gonna Come" are two of my favorites.

I used to be very wild, vocal(obscene) during a hit. But I started hearing some pain management stuff and began trying to lay as still and quiet as possible. Not that this is always possible but it does seem to help a bit with help from a large ice pack on my neck. Now I seem to be more conscious of my actions as I try not to allow my son(3 yrs old) to see me in that state. He is very sensitive when he knows I'm in pain. During my last hit, he climbed up in the bed with me and just lay quietly, rubbing my arm until he knew I felt better.
