Title: it helps to finally know Post by kurtinomaha on Apr 20th, 2011 at 5:05am
I'm Kurt, I live in Omaha NE. I'm 31 and been suffering from ch's since i was about 8 or 9. I never really new what they were until yesterday when I found this site.
I haven't had and episode for about three years now. I wouldn't have known to even look for the term "cluster headache" unless I had been watching Dr. Oz a couple of months ago when he had a discussion on the topics of headaches. I wasn't very interested at the time, but as I've started a new cycle 2 days ago, my interest has peeked. I've always thought they were migraines as I had never heard the term ch before, although I never was nauseous or sensitive to light. But after reading the information on this site i can pretty safely say that my symptoms are an exact match. This site has been a blessing to me in many ways. For one, just to know that I'm not crazy, two to know that there are people who understand the pain, three that there are methods of reducing the pain, and four to know that there are methods of reducing the pain. I just went out and got some melatonin, hopefully that will help tonight. Tomorrow's my day off and I will be researching oxygen tanks. I'm due for a ch in about 2 hours, I've been avoiding sleep. hope the melatonin works :) |

Welcome, Kurt. And thanks for the endorsements. This site has been a true God-send to so many. I'm glad you are willing to take the beast head-on. You are on the right track with the melatonin and O2. I'd encourage you to take whatever time you can to read through all the many threads and links you can, keeping pen and paper handy, and make notes on all the various abortives and preventatives we discuss. While there is no cure at this time, there are ways to manage our disease effectively. Keep a headache diary and note the times, duration and circumstances surrounding the cycle of hits. Finally, I encourage you to find a headache specialist who knows about CHs, or who at least is willing to be educated by you with the research you will find here. Stick around and let us know how you are doing. God bless. lance

Welcome to the site Kurt! One of our best tools in fighting CH, is our own knowledge of the treatments.
This site has more CH info than most Doctors, so we have to educate them sometimes, if they're willing. Read around the site and you'll see. Don |
