My nuero suggested a "simple" procedure where he would inject some numbing agent into the nerve in the back of the head which essentially deadens it.  Apparently it’s the nerve that gives sensation to your scalp.  Has anyone ever heard of this???

There are several procedures which involve various degrees of injections, electrical blocks, cutting, etc.

Overall, the outcomes are mixed to the degree that they should be regarded as a last effort, after the conventional--and widely used--therapies have failed.

The problem for all of us to deal with the doctor who is ready to try and latest thing which has appeared in the medical literature but, for which the evidence of effectiveness is scanty.

If you are at the stage where you are opening to considering these approaches, it would be wise to get one or two second opinions, preferably from a headache clinic vs. a solo doc.

If you are talking about an occipital block which is injecting a numbing agent and a steroid, I have tried it.   Only got relief for about 48 hrs.  Felt really good to relieve the pain for a while but did not last long.[email][/email]
