These are taken by a good friend of ours.  They are taken in Baon Rouge.  In the first one, that is Baton Rouge to the left and the MS river to the right

Carolyn,
I've walked both the river levees and the coastal levees and the noticeable difference is the concrete armoring of the river levees.

You can clearly see it in these photos.

However, I can't even imagine the lateral forces being imposed on these structures.

I was in "the parish" (St. Bernard) today and to see the ships traversing the river, knowing the bottom of the vessel is above your head, is especially daunting.

May they hold.

I saw that Natchez was listed on GMA this morning when talking about the Mississippi and immediately thought of you Carolyn.  Prayers that everyone stays safe!!

Steve,
Hope you aren't going to be affected when they open the Morganza spillway.

This is the map of the area that will be affected when they open the Morganza spillway.

*I* am not in any danger of being flooded.  I live almost on the AR line (almost in the center going west-east) and if I flood, there is no state left, it's all under water.  My sister who lives in Ferriday (east of Vidalia) is packing up her stuff that can't be replaced and putting it in storage.  They have already evacuated the medically fragile and non-ambulatory patients.

They have relocated the hospital prisoners from Angola Pen(it is surrounded on three sides by the Mississippi).

No Carolyn and Barb...we live in Mandeville.  It's on the coast of the northshore of Lake Pontchartrain.

Edna may be in eye-shot living in Raceland...which is on the edge of the Morganza floodway.

Well, you could, but you'd have to wear your waterwings!  Probably won't go to any in MS for awhile.

Yeah, my son is on "standby" to go to Tunica when the water goes down to get the Horseshoe back up and running... they're loosing money by Jimi not being there...  :)

We have probably taken more money from there than we have put in. Tunica has been nice to us.

But they have plenty of money. They will be back up and running as soon as they can.

It's probably going to get a bit worse before it's all said and done with.

They've closed the river at the Natchez port
