Title: Newbie headache migraine sufferer
Post by Craig Dennis on Jun 1st, 2011 at 8:50am
My name is Craig, I'm from Durban South Africa, 53 years old and have been suffering with significant headaches and migraines for over 40 years. Of late the pain has intensified dramatically and the migraine frequency is now every other day. The side effects are impacting my quality of life and my ability to function at work. I am on medication but the side effects are debilitating and awful and include nausea, tinnitus, dizziness, lack of concentration. The last 2 years have been a watershed for me, lost 20kgs in weight, lost interest in life, just plain NAFI.

Help!

Craig, in this age of specialization we limit ourselves to working with Cluster Headache. Migraine and Cluster are sufficiently different that handling one target keeps our plate full. I'm sure that any search engine will get to Migraine focused support groups--there are a bunch out there.

One thing we can share: using a headache specialist for your care is superior to a general practice doctor or general neurologist. At least in the U.S. and England, the training of most doctors in headache is so limited that many of our folks have spent years searching for effective care until they shifted to a skilled specialist.

Best wishes....

What Bob said, PLUS, hey before you hit the migraine specialty boards we've learned some pretty snazzy tricks here that reportedly also work for migraine relief.

One is a new high dose vitamin D3 regimen - it would probably be worth your while to read through that topic - here it is: START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE

This next one may sound like a joke, but really we're not screwing around here, we're very motivated to get right to what actually works. Basically you quickly down an energy drink or shot such as Red Bull at the onset of an attack. There's something about the combo of caffeine and taurine in them that can actually abort the attack. I've encouraged my wife, a chronic migraine sufferer, to to do this, and she regularly aborts her migraines this way.  :)
