Title: Pain management nerve block shots?? Post by Darryl York on Jun 9th, 2011 at 11:07am
Yesterday I went in to the pain mangement doctor to get the nerve block shot in my neck. He also puts a deading medicine up my nose. I have had this done two other times and they have lasted for two months each time. I had it done again yesterday around mid day came home and just felt alittle groggy. I ate supper took my medicine and went to sleep thinking everything will be good for the next couple of months. I was awaken at 2:30am with a monster of a cluster and it took almost a hour for it to go away after a shot and oxygen. Is this unordinary to get a cluster right after having a nerve block shots? Also, each time I get these nerve shots I get terrible hicupps the day afterward. The hiccupps have started this morning and they are making my head hurt. Now I am scared the cycle has started again and even the nerve block shots are not working.

guess this one stumped everyone. Went to my neuro yesterday and got three injections in the occiptal nerve in my head. Feel much better now. Still fighting hiccupps. My doctor is advising me to get occipatal nerve stimulator. I am not sure on doing this. Does anyone have any opinions on this surgery?

Don't know - never had one.
I have been pain free for over a year, but not because of shots in my head or drops up my nose. Sorry - I can't render an informed opinion for you. |

We had one member of this board who had the stimulator implanted in her, after exhausting other treatment options. It was problematic at first, required a second surgery, and has been succesful for her.
That being said, it's still an invasive surgical procedure which should be considered only after exhausting all other options. Wishing you luck on the journey. Joe |

My husband has had the Occipital Nerve Block shots. The first time he had them done a few years ago he got 30 days PF time and each time after that the PF time got less and less.
We moved just over a year ago and he now has a new doc and he wanted to try the ONB again and Phil was game. He got 9 days PF, but had a migraine the whole time with a stiff neck and shoulder around the injection sites. I'm thinkin' that he's going to keep on busting and using energy drinks and O2 along with his Verapamil. He's never gotten hit with a CH right after or had persistant hiccups. |
