Title: KIP, Chance would be a nice thing!!! Post by Andy T on Jun 21st, 2011 at 7:44am
Hi Guys
For the last 6 or 7 weeks, I've slowly had an episode coming on. Typical shadows on a regular daytime basis. Easy to deal with at home, a slug on the O2 has worked wonders. At work, not too easy, as I often work in a prison and I can't fetch the O2 in. I can get my sumatriptan injections in, but at a maximum of KIP 4 or 5 and usually less, I aren't happy to use my limited 2 daily injections, just in case I need em in the night. Any other idea's anyone? Currently, in the night, I'm having attacks manageable with O2. All in all, I know this is the easy stage, much more, I know what to potentially expect. Its the first episode since my prevents were increased, 'Epilim Chrono', so I'm hoping it won't get out of hand. The only real problem at the moment is the lack of sleep, due to the night disturbances. At weekend, its easy. I just fall asleep in the day, when I feel totally out of it. I can't do that at work though. My last episode caused 2 months off. There were some concerned individual colleagues and managers, but as a whole I got the clear impression that My problem affecting my work ain't appreciated. I lost out financially, punitively, I felt, but apparently that's company policy. Bottom line, I don't anticipate a positive reception if I try to address the situation with the company. Particularly at the moment, when most of us staff are anticipating redundancies, as projects are drying up. I'm drinking plenty of strong coffee n some 'Red Bull' with no real long term benefit. Again, any idea's anyone, both to help me keep pepped up through the day and any employment law things I would benefit from knowing about? Well I've taken enough of your time guys. Thanks to you all and may you remain PF (or get there soon!!) Regards Andrew |

Many have found they can get 6-8 hours of sleep using a longer acting triptan right before bed. Something like naratriptan or frovatriptan. Pill form, taken right before going to sleep.

Until relatively recently I was getting hit regularly at 11pm, 1am, and 3am. I knew they were coming but I couldn't do anything to stop them from coming. High doses of melatonin have helped-I take 15mgs at night. I also slept next to my tank, sometimes in a sitting up position which helped, maybe. After awhile, though, my body adjusted to the short intervals of sleep I got in between hits. Especially as the O2 began to abort the hits more quickly. Not much help, here, but testimony to the problem and hope for an adjustment. Good luck and God bless. lance

Thanks Guys
Certainly will have a look at stripping down a needle, though it may not be a good thing to try whilst I'm in the prison, the establishment do tend to frown on anyone messing with needles, it took me long enough to get permission to fetch them in. Am going to see my GP about the med options, though I anticipate they'll pass the buck to my Neuro, but I'll just have to push for my next appointment bringing forward. PF Good Wishes Andrew |
