Title: wow , great success at the specialist today Post by Captain Cluster Head on Sep 2nd, 2011 at 12:27pm
Hi all , today ive been to a see a headache specialist in Liverpool , who has confirmed 100% that i have cluster headaches ( as if i didnt know anyway lol ) and luckily HE SUGGESTED i have home oxegeon and the injections too.
All i have to do now is wait a couple of days for him to contact my GP then she will be able to fill out a hoof form. Im very glad i took the trip to Liverpool now , the specialist was excellent imo.i had a full medical and everything else was completely fine .I never even had to mention oxegeon he was the one who suggested it to me . he said i needed high flow oxegeon at 13 to 15. So yeah im very pleased how fast everything has gone for me and im loking forward to having a decent pain reliever soon . would allso like to thank everyone here for supportive words and all the infomation on oxegeon etc that people have kindly sent to me .....thankyou ;) |

Congrats on landing a good specialist!
15 LPM does work for some CH'ers - especially if used with a non-rebreather mask such as the optimask. If per chance it doesn't work well enough for you, please keep in mind that getting a high flow regulator or demand valve system and breathing at higher LPMs likely will work. |

Great that you found a good neuro, I wish we saw many more of these successes than some of the horror stories we often get.
I'll echo bejeeber's comments about 13-15lpm being low. Some get relief at that flow rate (or lower) but others need it to go a lot higher. I hope the next few days fly by and you're all set up as soon as possible to combate the beast. |

Hi,
Good job on the oxygen. All my doctor gives me is pain killers which do nothing, so i basically have to suffer them to the full extent. Been having my most recent cycle for about 4 weeks now. I may have to go back and ask to see a specialist. |

Hi Rick
Do make sure that you do go to see a neuro who specializes in headaches as the current treatment you are getting of just pain killers is just about useless for dealing with CHs. What you need is a good preventive, typically verapamil, but could be lithium, topomax, etc, which will reduce the number of CHs that you get. Then you also need something to abort CHs that do break through. Oxygen (see the link at the left) is amazingly good for aborting CHs (I kill mine off in about 6 minutes). Also look at imitrex (imigran) in the injectable form. Keep reading here, you'll learn a LOT about how to properly handle CHs. |
