Hope you and yours are safe.  Fires scare me worse than tornadoes and earthquakes do.

BTW, he posted on the OUCH message board on September 1.

Prayers on the way for you and yours Marc and to all the other residents of Bastrop.

I sent him a message on FB this morning when I heard and I haven't heard back.  I also sent him an email a couple of hours ago.  I also keep checking his FB wall to see if someone posts something there to let everyone know if their ok.

Marc checked in on FB and posted a picture.  He's not sure if his house survived or not, but he is ok.

The picture he posted on FB...well it doesn't look good.  It's a residential shot with black billowing clouds in the background.

Oh Marc, I hope all you have is some smoke damage and nothing more.

Howdy Folks,

First I want to thank you all for the prayers, well wishes and hopes. We’re in a hotel in Austin while we wait to get into the fire area. The only factual info we can get, tells us that by far most of the homes on our country road are gone.

But, we’ve had people tell us that they heard that ours was standing.  The up/down roller coaster ride is draining, with conversations like this:

Neighbor who lives 1/2 mile away: “My brother went in by dirt bike and said that he saw a rock house that sounded like yours – and it was fine”

Cop blocking the road: “Sir, everything all the way down this road is absolutely totally gone.”

Another neighbor: “I was told that there is a rock house that they saved because the owner had cleared the underbrush all the way around and had a green lawn. The way he described the house and the area, it has to be your house Marc.”

The county issued maps showing areas of 100% devastation. We are dead center of the path.

And then many more similar conversations............

Here are some pictures I've taken. The close shots are about 1.5 miles from home, the distant shots are from my shop about 7-8 miles away.

Wow Marc, the pictures are just devastating. I hope that they can let the residents in to the area soon, so you will know, one way or the other. Then you can begin rebuilding your lives, and/or helping your neighbors rebuild theirs.

If you had a rock house and a GOOD roof...you may just be all right.   We can only pray.

Marc's place is still standing.  Burned all around him, right up to his lawn but didn't touch his house.  I'm sure when he stops the happy dance, he'll be by to tell you all about it and share some pics.

Thanks for helping a really nice guy.

Kudos to Marc for having his property well cleared. Definately made it easy for the FD to defend. Such a blessing for Marc and his family. So sad that there was such devistation to all his neighbors.

Thanks Boob for letting us know.  What a relief and I am amazed that it got that close without actually harming his property.   Marc has a guardian angel, that's for sure.  WoW !!!!!!!

There may be some burn on the right side that can't be seen here - don't know because we still can't get closer than 1 mile. We have been warned that virtually all of the homes around us are flat.

Again, I thank all of you folks!

From the perspective of this particular camera, it appears to be nothing short of a miracle.

Sometimes God's answer to prayer actually aligns with our pleas.

THAT, is a freakin miracle.  I can only imagine how it smells, but so thankful for it's continued existence!

Marc that is absolutely fantastic - and miraculous!  I kept telling you - smoke damage LOL - I hope everyone else has had the same result.  Have you heard from Steve?  Did the fires get up to him?  Tracey told me on Friday that they had a fire there and the flames got within 20 yards of the house - she was pretty resigned to losing the house, but somehow they escaped the flames as well!  Of course, she was still IN the house!!  Crazy Texans - the lot of ya! lol

I'm so so glad - and I can't thank you enough for taking time out of your nightmare to reach out a helping hand - folks you may not know it - but during all this unknown roller coaster that Marc was riding, he took time out to talk to me on the phone and get Alex set up with welding Oxygen because he doesn't have access to medical O2 in AZ at the moment.

How's that for an incredible guy? :)  Thanks Marc, good things happen to good people.  Smoke Damage ;)

*hugs*
Cat

p.s. a big thank you to everyone else who was trying to help Alex as well :)

Some windows on the North side of our home are heat cracked, the roof is scalloped from heat but no burn-through holes. It didn't get too hot inside the house because candles didn't melt down (these go down at 128-130 degrees)

All of the roads are closed and very heavily guarded with local, state and fed officers. I heard rumors that there are two very pissed off young deputies who need to practice riding their quads so that they can keep up with some fat old man seen riding through the woods away from my house on an ancient 650 thumper.

Now I can sleep.

If you happen to run into that fat old man, tell him I think his riding skills are first rate.

Glad you can sleep now.

Best wishes,

George
