Title: reality check Post by Linda_Howell on Sep 7th, 2011 at 8:37pm
Today PFC Mullen came home after being killed in Afghanistan. Jim rode his bike along with 150 other” Patriot Guard” riders and the “Blue knights”, “Rolling thunder” and “American legion riders” to the airport in Owensboro, Ky. to meet the plane and give escort and do a flag-line as the casket came off the plane.. There were so many people along the way with flags. Children were let out of school, businesses were closed, Fed-Ex, UPS, and mail carriers were along the route with either their hands over their heart or saluting as the hearse went by. This went on for miles and miles and there wasn’t one gap in people lining the street. .People who didn’t know him personally were crying. One 80-something woman stood alone with a flag on an over-pass. A bunch of guys putting on a roof, stopped, saluted and waited for it to go by. The Westborough crazies weren’t there… but the funeral will be Sunday and they will probably show up there. If I had a gun I’d shoot holes in their “thank God for dead soldiers” signs. I believe he was only 23 yrs. old.
Whenever I catch myself feeling sorry for myself, I’ll think of this and all the other soldiers funerals I’ve attended for these brave men. Please pray for the families. |

Praying with gratitude for a young man who understood what it is all about.

Thank you for the post, Linda. May his sacrifice, and that of all our good men and women, never be in vain. lance

Thank you, Jim and Linda, for being a part of the group who escorts these young men and women to their resting places. Standing on the side of the road last year, as a solider was laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery was one of the most moving experiences of my life.
The Westborough crazies literally turn my stomach. And they do what they do in the name of God. Disgusting. My nephew, Nick and his unit left this past Saturday to defend a supplies post somewhere over there. ( We were asked not to disclose the exact location on any type of public forum.) I honestly don't know how my sister will sleep at night until he is home safe and sound. Edited to add text for clarification |

Hoping for a successful mission for Nick and his unit, with everyone returning home fit and well.
