Title: SERIOUS.. new news from my neuro Post by BarbaraD on Sep 29th, 2011 at 6:16pm
Went in for my 50,000 mile check up yesterday and (don't cringe) got a NEW diagnoisis along with CH... I now have Chronic migraines (had just plain ones before) along with Chronic CH -- aren't I the lucky one????
But my neuro is doing some research (mostly in migraines cause he has THEM).. He says he's having really good luck with botox injections in the middle of the forhead (esp. for the chronics) But that's it's working somewhat (and he didn' t have a lot of data - just some of his "bad" patients... on CH. So I'm scheduled for my BOTOX injections in Nov. Seems we put 31 shots in the old forehead (at one time) and then 3 months later get to do it again. (Course being the shy retiring person I am, I did ask if we could put a little around the "laugh" lines around the eyes and maybe add a little "fullness" to the lips) Think this was about the time he kicked me out of his office till Nov. Those of you who've known me for 100 years know I've been game for anything that MIGHT work to get over being chronic... Keep your fingers crossed on this one. THese dam migraines on top of the CH are NOT a fun thing. Ya know, I think this is my punishment for all the years I "looked down" on people who had migraines.. I thought they were just "putting on" cause they were lazy or didn't want to do something - I mean how could a little headache hurt THAT much.. come on ... Today, if someone complains about a broken fingernail - hey, they've got MY sympathy.. :) So now I've solved the mystery of the REASON for CH and migraines.. you can all rest in peace now.. :) Thanks for being here... :-* |

I did botox injections for a while. They got rid of my chronic migraines that I had on top of chronic ch. Then I got a hysterectomy and that stopped the migraines. Turns out they were hormonally triggered. I hope you get relief from them real soon. Praying for sucess for you.

Phil had Botox for his chronic migraine and he got about a month's worth of relief out of it.

Well, this morning (I do my heavy thinking in the mornings) - I figured it all out -- all MY problems are the fault of MEDICARE...
Before medicare I ONLY had CH and I'd pretty well got them under control (oh I'm chronic but I'd learned to live with that - 2 trips a year to the neuro - refill meds - keep O2 on hand - live with it). Had LUNCH with my doc a couple of times a year - he checked my pulse - and unless I had an "accident" didn't see him much more often than that.. THEN I got Medicare! And I swear I've seen doctors more since that happened than have in all the years proceeding it.. And they KEEP finding things WRONG.. How can a person fall apart in only two (well almost three) years? I go in for a "simple" cold and they find all sorts of other things that don't have anything to do with a "cold" and run tests and find something else again.. I come home because I'm falling apart.. The "latest" is the ENT doc who was treating a "sinus" infection has decided that I have all the signs of diabetis and insists that I go to my reg doc for THAT test... Is there any way to opt OUT of Medicare or go back to being 64 again? At this rate I'm going to be counting dust balls in a nursing home before I'm 70!!!!! :-? Personally, I think they've got too many doctors doing too many damn tests these days and finding too much wrong with OLD people who could live just as well with stuff if they didn't know they had it.. Oh and while I'm on a rant - Just got another one - did you KNOW that Valium is NOT on the "approved" Medicare RX list for Vertigo (which I actually have). Never mind that it is an OLD tried and true remedy (when mixed with antivert and niaciain) to clear this up (for years in my case - had it when I was 40 and it worked after only 6 months for all these years until lately). But I guess I shouldn't complain - for $29 I get 100 pills, break them in half and that lasts me a couple of months so I figure for about $60-90 I'm good for about another 27 years of no vertigo.. then if they don't find anything ELSE wrong with me I can climb on chairs again... :P End of rant for today... Think I'll take a WHOLE valium today! :-* |

Het Barb, I visited the one and only "drummer" last week. He escorted me into the hallowed "GARAGE". What an honor!
BTW - he's still an idiot. |

We all get mysterious illnesses and the need for all kinds of tests when Medicare or Medicaid is involved. Basically, I have two doctors, if you count my neurologist that handles my epilepsy. The neurologist is disappointed in me. I told him that I don't need to see him 5 times a year to write prescriptions. Way too many doctors seem to think that it's okay to use Medicare as a cash machine. The AMA fought it tooth and nail until they discovered what a cash cow it is.
I'm no fun. One CT scan in my life is plenty unless I'm at death's door and then it's likely redundant. I've had seizures for 52 years and I know what to expect. I told him that if anything changes, I'll let him know and that 3 visits are all I'll put up with. The third is for a doppler once a year that makes sense to me since my T. I. A. a few years ago. Anyway, I fired a dermatologist that insisted I see him 6 times year rather than once since Medicare took over. What a crook. Basically we are tested to death and just about all Medicare patients spend half their time in waiting rooms. They aren't all guilty of this but for a lot of them it's a sleazy business. The only time I feel sick is after a checkup. When I was a kid, we never went to the doctor, he came to us....Yes. I am that old. Be careful Barb but don't let them get away with something. Good luck kid. Mean Old Charlie |
