Title: New Member - New Sufferer????
Post by MarissaR on Oct 7th, 2011 at 5:41pm
I believe I may have experienced my first CH this weekend... Sunday mid-afternoon, I was helping my mom bake a dessert when in my forehead area, I got a sharp, brain freeze feeling. It even made me lose concentration for awhile. It lasted about 30 minutes or so and I took an Ibuprofen and it went away. I didnt think anything of it, because I have suffered from migraines in the past and I figured it was an odd migraine episode. Later that evening, I was with family watching the football game and I was sitting on the couch watching tv, eating dinner when it struck again... Still on my forehead area but this time it felt more intense between my eyes. I immediately help my head and started crying because of how painful and intense the pain was from it. It even scared my family... My boyfriend brought me some water and again Ibuprofen and when I got up I felt like I was going to be sick. I then went to TRY and lay down in bed but due to the pain it was no help! I could just lay there crying holding my head & finally 45 minutes later it went away, just like that.... Again Monday morning, at work it hit again this time only for 20 but still intense pain! I have had wierd inense pain hits like that before but never for that long or that painful! I hope to go to a doctor soon and find out whats going on... & if im not a sufferer, I feel for all of you that are because if its anything like I got, its painful!!!

Marissa,

As you already know...having one or two headaches may or may not be CH.  Are you going to see a family type doctor, or a headache specialist?  A family doctor will, no doubt have no clue as to cluster headaches.  Our condition is too rare and most sufferers go years without being diagnosed correctly, not to mention..treated correctly.

Start a diary of your headaches before you see anyone.  Take the cluster quiz in the links to the left of here, 4th. one down.  In the meantime read around this site.  There is so much info. here and it will take a long time but it might just give you some references as where to go next.

I wish you well.  If you want to talk to someone one-on-one, you can PM me  and I will give you my phone #  Sometimes just talking out loud with someone can help.  Even if it isn't ch you have you're still in pain and I'd be happy to talk to you.

BTW...Ibuprofin won't get rid of a CH. :-/

What Linda said.

Just out of curiosity, how did you determine it might be CH?

Be certain to read the "oxygen info" tab on the left.  If indeed it is cluster that should be your first line of defense as an abortive.  Please leave the Ibuprofen alone.  To get the level of relief you would need from it would be fatal and would take to long to get into your system to do any good anyway.

Welcome tot he board. Could it be CH? It's possible but too early to know. Any sudden head pain like you describe necessitates a trip to the GP, to see about a referral to a qualified headache neuro. Wishing you speed on the diagnostic journey. If it turns out to be CH, don't lose this link!
