Title: ICE
Post by niner99 on Oct 22nd, 2011 at 2:49pm
I am new to this site and find it awesome.  I've had CH, undiagnosed for many years. During which I was self diagnosed through s/s and introduced to imitrex, which i just love. But before imitrex and to this very day, i would use ice packs during some of my attacks, especially when full blown. I haven't read really anything on the use of ice for CH.  Although ice never took the pain completely away, it definitely made it more tolerable, especially if taking pills and waiting for their effect.  There were a few times when i did not have an ice pack, but instead used frozen veggies or just threw ice cubes in a towel and smashed em on the counter, floor or my head itself.  Again, ice never made me pain free but it absolutely helped until the pill(s) kicked in.  Hope this helps some of ya...

Heat and cold ;) For some a blistering hot shower, heating pads, steaming water, will alleviate the pain. For others, ice packs, cold showers, sticking their head in the freezer, putting their nose infront of an auto air conditioning vent and hyperventilating, all provide some degree of relief.

Read this link. Oxygen has all but eliminated my use of imitrex. Just as fast and effective, much cheaper, and no side effects. Worth a read.

Glad you found us, hope we can help you.

ICE is water frozen into the solid state. Usually ice is the phase known as ice IH, which is the most abundant of the varying solid phases on the Earth's surface.
The U.S. enjoys an average of 48 pints of ice cream per person, per year, more than any other country. Now a days its most important for all of us.

Thanks for that.

I have a bottle of Makers Mark that I dipped in red wax at the distillery just waiting for Joe and Christy to come back to Kentucky for a visit.  We will open it then and there will be no ice involved.   ;D

I love it when threads go south like this..

I am now 41 years old and I started using ice at a very young age. To this day, I still use it with almost every hit. As you said, it definitely makes it a little bit easier to tolerate while waiting for my meds or O2 to kick in. Maybe it's psychological for me but it always helped when mom did it for me when I was little so I have just kept using it. 'If it ain't broke don't fix it', right? I say keep doing it even if it just makes it just makes us thinkits helping. :)
