Title: Another newie, hiya all
Post by nanny deb on Oct 22nd, 2011 at 4:14pm
I cant begin to tell you how good it feels knowing that i am not the only one who turns into a gibbering wreck at 3am, praying that this attack will not last as long as the one a few hours earlier.
I am lucky that my ch's seem to occur every 3/4 years, how some of you cope with them when they happen more than that god only knows, my heart goes out to you all.
My demon started about 20 years ago and trying to get a diagnosis and treatment was a waste of time, it was only after the 3rd episode did my GP refere me to a migraine clinic who immediatly put a name to what i was having, akthough he did also say that they were also known as the suicide migraine as he had had several patients who had tried to take their own life before being refered to his clinic. He was wonderful, he did not question when i told him how close i had come to jumping out of the window the night  before, he understood, but best of all he listened.
I was given oxygon and a drug but can't remember what and overnight life became worth living again. I now have oxygon on standby ready for the beast and also take Zomig nasal spray.I am lucky that i do not have to pay for my meds as i think i would be bankrupt by now, one good thing about living in the UK i suppose.I am also very lucky to have a supportive family, my hubby is amazing  he hates seeing me in a state of hysteria when the pain gets to much.
I am looking forward to chatting to you all
god bless

A simple over the counter regimen that's providing a lot of relief for a lot of people, long read but worth the time.

Then just start reading like crazy, knowledge is your most powerful weapon against the beast. We'll help you all we can.

Here's prayin' the zomig works for you. I have found I needed either Migranal (which took longer to work but lasted longer) and imitrex injections (which worked more quicly but didn't last as long) observing the rule not to mix the two within a 24 hour period. The zomig didn't seem to be as effective for me but many have found it does work. If the cycle persists, look for a good preventative like verapamil or lithium. I am currently taking 640mg/day of verapamil, and some are higher, but not all can tolerate the high doses. It will take some experimentation under the guidance of a doc who understands CHs. There is help and hope. Hang in there and keep us up to date. God bless. lance
