Title: Nerve Block Post by niner99 on Oct 25th, 2011 at 4:20pm
So...this CH season started approx 2 1/2 weeks ago, getting moderate to severe HA's. Imitrex injections being used most of the time and on occasion, pills. Never seeking a neurologist consult, this season was the worst so far, increases in frequency was my biggest issue and running out of injections. Yesterday morning I saw the neurologist. He gave me an occipital nerve block in addition to dexamethasone injection (all 1 shot). In addition to the injection a prescription was called in for dexamethasone pills, one pill 2 times a day for 5 days. WHAT A MIRACLE!!!
Since then (approx 36 hrs ago) I have had 1 headache. For those who have the opportunity to see a neurologist, I highly suggest this. I have a follow up appointment next week, I'll let you all know how it went. Hope this helps... |

First of all ... I'm glad you are getting some relief. That's the most important thing.
I just wanted to say: I doubt that the ON block is what has given you some relief. It is probably the steroids that you were given that is providing the relief. Although, an ON block can help some...I think it rarely works. Make sure you do the steroids like the Dr prescribed. :) Either way, really glad something is helping you. Wishing you pain free days & nights ! :) |

Hiya niner...welcome....
ON block never worked for me...but definitely worth a shot...others have benefited. Re dexamethasone....from what I read a stronger version of prednisone and prednisilone. Definitely a cycle killer possible. For me...methylprednisolone did that.... ONCE...and I too felt a miraculous relief...it didn't work again. It's possible this WILL...for you...until the next time. BEST plan is to combine with a preventive...like verapamil or lithium or combo...or, well, read Bob's posts on "current treatment options". Best, Jon |
