I've experienced intense headaches all my life (migraines run in my family) but during the last 3 years or so they have become unbearable, like an ice-pick piercing through my left eye socket and through the back of my skull...

I just got back from the ER as this episode has gone on unremitting for the past 10 days....I was prescribed vicodin, imitrex, and some other anti-inflammatory drug which don't seem to be very helpful. My psychiatrist has me on zyprexa, prozac, and ritalin for anxiety and depression.

But here's a glimpse into my mind as of a few days ago that I wrote on a blog of mine during a particularly painful episode.

I'm just trying to find someone whom I can relate to as I've been tempted to just end myself to end the pain...a last ditch search into the realms of hope...

Your first step should be to try find a knowledgable doctor and get a firm diagnosis.  Anti-inflammatories and Vicodin are not the way to treat CH if that is what you have. 

You haven't put your location in your profile.  If you had,  I could give you names of sufferer-recommended doctors in your area.

Well I'm scheduled to see a neurologist in a few weeks...trying to see if I can see one sooner. I live in Atlanta, GA.

It can help in this meantime to keep a log of each occurrence.  Time of day, duration, intensity and such.  A 1-10 Kip scale of pain should be on the tabs to the left.

Splitbrain you're on the right track getting into a specialist. There are numerous effective treatments available to really improve your quality of life. For now, try chugging an energy drink at the begining of your attacks. Monster, Red Bull, Rock Star, any containing the combo of caffiene and taurine. Will abort or reduce an attack for many.

Wishing you some speed and luck on a diagnosis. If it is CH, don't lose this website, it's the motherlode of CH information.
