I have found that when I travel down my mountain (3000') to the flatlands, I will usually get a Ch when I come back up to lower air pressure due to elevation.

In addition, if a weather front moves in with Barometric pressure drop, I will get shadows and/or CH.

I once fell asleep coming up the mountain and woke up about halfway up with a screaming Ch.

Does anyone else notice this trigger? Help appreciated.

If I could stay up here all the time, I would be better off, but every Dr and anything but the grocery and gas station is off the mountain.

Dr understands, but only in the context that Magraineurs experience some of the same.

Any ideas? I can only surmise that the change leaves the internal pressure too high for a period while equalizing the pressure inside and outside. My ears pop if I go to town and the change there is only about 100-300'!

It would be nice to know that someone else has a similar/same issue.

Yes...elevation, altitude, barometric change all have been discussed before as triggers to attacks and triggers to a new cycle.  You are not alone on this!

I'm sure somebody knowledgeable will offer education on this thread....until then use your search button.

When I first got on CH board few years ago I read most threads, and I do remember someone mentioning air pressure as a major trigger for them, airplane travel or like you biking over mountains, skiing, scuba diving etc.

After 4 hours up with 'my friend :'(, last night and 3 solid hits today, I think I am doing pretty good to ask a question. :-[

I am again running on four broken hours of sleep in 24 hours. I have a family and house to take care of, a farm with livestock to care for, four gardens to put to bed, and a retail business that is open 6 days a week. Perhaps that does not sound much of a load for some, but it is damn hard for me to get it done now.

I will appreciate any and all replies. Currently, this place is my escape from 11:00 to 4:00am or 3:00 to 6:00am. I am now drinking coffee at the second attack at night, since it is guaranteed to return if I lie back down in less than two hours. Then, I just stay up until my eyes cross.

I have already been thru 1 and 1/2 O2 tanks in less than two weeks. Whatever size they are, they are 36-39" tall and about 8" diameter. Yes, I am using it properly, but I stopped with the pre-bedtime ten minutes based on your input. Thank you.

Thanks Matty: Is there a short cut to find an old thread about pressure changes? Reading something 2-3 yrs. old is not always a help since stuff changes a lot in that length of time.

I think your ? is very logical and it appears as if you took my reply as disrespectful, not my intent at all.  I personally am not too familiar with the correlations, but saw your post with no other replies and just wanted to offer you some comfort that somebody read your post and acknowledge you are not alone with your valid concern.

barometric change ,up or down is major trigger for me. i have different type of head stuff. So im blessed to have ch and other headaches. I know weather change is a BIG trigger for alot of peeps! Stay strong my friend we are all here for u!

To show you the inconsistent nature of CH.... >:(.......barometric changes, elevation changes, flying, none have been triggers for me.

your not by yourself with this spiny weather changes are horrible for me, as well as flying I use to work in Las Vegas and no longer do as the trips were just to hard.....but every time the weather changes or there are drops in air pressure I seem to have a lot of attacks...I'm sorry I don't have an answer for this but I do hope you find one that helps you

Just this last summer, for the first time after 30+ years as a CH'er, I found elevation change to be a trigger for me for a couple out of cycle brief rogue hits when I was in the mountains at 7,000 feet.

Well actually maybe it wasn't exactly the first time - I've had to do the 'excuse yourself to the lavatory for an imitrex injection' routine in the past when flying during a cycle.

Anyhoo, I've seen several CH'ers report high elevation as a trigger, and one report it as a preventative.  :-?

Hey have ya tried an energy drink instead of coffee, since the added taurine is known to help it fight the CH attack more effectively than caffeine alone?

Also, have you looked into a demand valve system for your O2, since that could help conserve your supply with those E tanks, and it is considered the most effective delivery system?

Yes Sir, My brother, son and I are a human weather detectors. We all get smashed the day before and the day after the pressure changes. Very strange, it's similar to people with arthritis. Their bones hurt at pressure changes and my headaches increase.

I have given up trying to explain this problem to most anyone. It is nice to know that it is a common problem for some of ya'll. Not that I wish it on anyone, it's just nice to know I'm not alone (IE: crazy, twisted, or off my rocker).

I actually slept ALL night last night! See, ya'll did help. ;D

But, here I am again. I will try not to whine so much in the future, since wine sets my head off. ;)

I wish I could take the energy drink. I can't stand the taste and I have tried several. But, I have found coffee to have an immediate effect. I get relief before the cup is empty. But, I still can't lie back down for hours cause the sucker comes right back.
