Title: New to site, but not to Clusters
Post by Thunderseven79 on Dec 17th, 2011 at 10:11am
Hi, I am new to this site.  I'm glad to say that I haven't gone through a battle with CH in a few years now, but I'm glad to find this site in the event that I do have another.

My last series lasted 13 weeks, 3-4 a day lasting around 2 to 3 hours each.  I have only had 5 bouts with CH in the last 15-years, the last one being the longest.  I actually had two CH's that resulted in me passing out.  That was scary because both times I was in my car.  Good thing I pulled over when it started.

Luckily for me, my family, friends and co-workers kept a close eye on me.  They could easily tell when one was starting and they knew to leave me alone unless I came to them for help.  Went through a lot of paper towels during the last bout....:}  The only good thing about a CH is that it clears your head and sinuses out.

Anyway, I'm glad to be here.

Are you working with a decent headache specialist neuro? Do you have an effective treatment regimen? Oxygen, a good prevent? There's so much available now, the old days of just taking 90-120 minute hits are long past! ;) Let us know what you have in your arsenal.

I posted this earlier under Help and Support.

"I was prescribed the Dihydroergotamine nasal spray myself during my last bout.  Not sure if that's what worked, but the CH's stopped after two weeks with the spray.  Expensive stuff, but I keep it refilled and by my side at all times anyway.  Better safe than sorry."

I'm really can't say this spray is what stopped the cycle since I was already in week eleven by then, but I can say that after two weeks of starting the spray, the cycle stopped.  That's all I cared about at the time.  I too tried the O2, but it didn't work for me.  Almost all of my bouts this last cycle were between an 8-10 on the KIP scale, so that mey be why I saw no affect from O2.

I'm glad to have found this site though.

I, too, use the dihidro spray...Migranal. I also use imitrex injections, although not within 24 hours of each other. I find the spray works longer but takes longer to be effective. The trex works more quickly but doesn't last as long. As for the O2, I am chronic and unless I quickly abort the hit, find they zoom out of control pretty quickly. O2 aborts the hit and reduces the intensity. I couple it with by slamming a double sized Monster, or Red Bull. I suspect you may have had too low a flow of O2 (we need 25lpm+) or a poor mask set up. Maybe not, but when we hear O2 hasn't helped, that is the first thing to explore since it does work for damn near all of us. Not 100% but almost. God bless. lance

Welcome to CH.com. If you're having no success with O2 you may not be using it properly or waiting to long to start the use. Many on the site have said it didn't work until they learned how to use it properly for CH.

A good place to start learning about O2 for CH is at the link below. Again welcome to CH.com.
