Title: Unexpectedly positive results with melatonin
Post by PainInTheBrain on Jan 3rd, 2012 at 5:19pm
I have been reading this site for quite awhile but had nothing to bring to the table other than my head hurts, too. I have been a cyclic sufferer for about 15 years until within the past few months, I've become chronic with 2-5 clusters per day, all of which were accompanied with extreme pain and suffering. I have no insurance so I thought I was screwed.
About a month ago, I tried melatonin (brand: Spring Valley, dosage: 2x 5mg nightly). It didn't help immediately but after just less than a week, the results began to show.
Since that time, I have not had a full-blown cluster. I still get occasional – sometimes daily – shadows, but my quality of life has greatly increased. The shadows are manageable by the conventional methods— cold air, caffeine, deep breaths, etc. I'm telling you, it's remarkable. I can sleep, think and do anything else that I need to.
It makes me a little groggy in the morning but it's a small price to pay.
Hope it helps someone. Let me know.

Greetings Pain in the Brain! What do you mean you have little to share except your experience with pain. What else do we exist for on this site? By all means, share. Your success, as you have with Melatonin, but also your frustrations. A shared burden is always easier to bear, and we will should that load alongside you willingly. I'm truly glad you have found relief. I, too, am a chronic. I am convinced Melatonin is an integral part of my daily regimen. I need the whole gamut of abortives and preventatives, though, and because it works somewhat (I have cut duration and intensity by using O2, trex, Migranal, energy drinks, verapamil, etc) I am not willing to experiment with cutting any one of them out. I started this routine all at once and all at once I saw results. Good on you, and keep writing. Blessings. lance
