Title: Driving to Arizona Post by Bonnie lee on Feb 20th, 2012 at 3:20pm
In 4 months from Washington dc. Am nervous about doing it. Am afraid of having an episode while driving or something. So far the topamax had done me wonders but who knows with the devil. He could flip the switch on me anytime. Has anyone had to take a long trip like that?. Not doing it cuz I want two. I can thank the military for this wonderful trip. Just wanted to know if anyone had any traveling trips.. Thanks!!!!

How do you get your car ready for the trip?
Check the fluid levels, air pressure and tread on the tires, and go. You don't start fretting now about when the water pump will fail in the west Texas desert--unless you want to go crazy by departure date! Same for your mind & body. Know what you need; pack sufficient meds for the duration; plan some interesting side trips; and go. Fretting is always optional and crazy-making! Enjoy! |

Bonnie Lee,
I hate road trips while in cycle, but sometimes it is a necessity. i.e. My last two cycles i've had to take road trips driving 11 hours in each stretch with a pitstop for 30 minutes to pickup CH meds from a bordertown in Mexico. Just have your vehicle checked out beforehand, Imitrex ready in case of necessity, along with your favorite music. You can do it! ;) -Gregg in Las Vegas |

Good sunglasses. I find that bright sun and attendant squinting can sometimes bring on the shaddows in cycle. Drive safely and soldier on!

Hey Bonnie Lee. It sounds as if you are making the trip alone. That is harder since you and you alone can continue after the hit. I just finished taking a four hour car ride (and back again) and it is worrisome. No problems on the way up, but within an hour on the way back I got hit, had to take Migranal, and pull over for a 3 minute O2 refresher. Just don't let the hit build up too long before stopping to take care of it. Travel safely. Blessings. lance

Bonnie,
I just got back from such a trip to Arizona and Calif. from Kentucky. Do you have oxygen to take with you? Imtrex? Since you have 4 months...get yourself prepared by asking your Dr. for these abortives. Don't even try to keep driving when you feel one coming on, get off the highway and find a quiet place to park. Being on the road like that isn't any different than being at home and going about your every day life. IF, your prepared, that is. Linda |

No not going alone. Driving my car but my husband and son will be driving the truck and towing a trailer in front of me. I have all the medications I need. The oxygen I don't know because I get it through a company and I don't know if they have the same company there in Arizona.
