Title: Sinus Cyst
Post by Billie on Mar 3rd, 2012 at 5:10pm
I plan to call my GP to ask about this, but I wanted to get an opinion of anyone who may have had or have a sinus cyst.  Two years ago, I had an MRI.  My GP and old neurologist said I had sinusitis, but when my new neurologist looked at the disk he said it was a sinus cyst and that, unless it was causing problems, I didn't need to do anything about it.  I am wondering if these things go away on their own and if it's possible to still be in there 2 years later.

I feel that my CH cycle has ended because I have had no daytime attacks, but I have been woken up 3 times a night with headaches that are about a 6/10 on the pain scale.  They are not the typical 10+/10 clusters; so, I'm starting to wonder if it could be related to this cyst because it's on the same side and my nose has been crusty inside (not to be gross).  It could also be possible that my new meds are starting to kick in.

Anyway, I tend to overthink things but just wanted to get some advice from someone who may have dealt with a sinus cyst.  I think I am going to try some over-the-counter sinus medication tonight before bed to see if that helps any.

I can't help you on the cyst question, but if you haven't tried melatonin yet, it helps many avoid those night time wake up hits. It's available at any vitamin or health food store, start with 9 mg about 30 minutes before bedtime, may have to play with the dosing a little, some go as high as 18 mg to get relief.

Hoping you're right and beasty is on his way out. ;)

Hey thanks!  I've been taking only 5 mg of melatonin at night; so, I think I will go up and try that.

There are a number of surgeons around my town that suggest way too much surgery in this area. It's a cash cow. It's a mess too. I'd go with your MD on this. He sounds like a good man to me.

I doubt that it's related to CH anyway.

When I was diagnosed with ch's I also had a sinus cyst that showed up on the scan.  I was given a script for amoxicillin for the cyst and amitriptyline for the ch's (which was a waste).  It did eventually go away, the cyst that is.

Thanks for the replies.  My doctor had given me a Z-PAK when mine was found and some kind of nasal spray.  I think the discharge in my nose is probably from the kind of heat we have in the house.  My husband said his has been doing the same thing, and he thinks that's why.  This is our 1st winter here, and he's probably right.
