Title: New Imitrex injector pins
Post by kdeen0201 on Mar 28th, 2012 at 12:05pm
Sorry if this has been done before, but does anybody have any ideas about how to make the new sumitriptan injector pins into 2mg without breaking it??? I thought about somehow dispensing it into a vile of sorts and drawing it into another needle. Thanks in advance...

I have a few of the sumavel needleless pro dose pens. Is this what you are talking about? I would like to know how to do this as well. They are also 6mg and it would be great if I could take that apart & inject it into one of my vials to get a few extras at 3mg instead. I just can't figure out how to do it.

I am going to try Insulan syringes
I will discharge the ingector pen to a seperate vial draw up two mg and try that
fear of needles has the best of me at the moment but if my 16 year old daughter can give her self 5 needles a day Dad should be able to do one. :)

Ask your doc (or an enlightened pharm) for the vials (5 x 6mg)...and get a box of skinny insulin jabbers. It's the same stuff...same price...but LOTS more doses (at 2 mg). The convenience of a fixed dose delivery system is how the pharmaceutical companies respond to a need (and a societal demand for NOW)... but always for the MOST dollars possible. You don't have to accept that game...you do have to know how to play it.

Get an advocate doc...headache specialist usually required...prepare for a fight with insurance company(which is why an advocate doc so important, besides you own dogged determination and REFUSAL to accept NO)...that knowledge best obtained here. Read read read......

Best,

Jon

I haven't heard of any way to alter the Sumavel Dose Pro dosage, but the auto injector pens can be disassembled and put into another vial as described above and 6mg vials of Imitrex (Sumatriptan) are also available with an Rx for use with small BD insulin type needles (remembering that the dose is SUBQ, meaning injected just under the skin and NEVER into a vein). Try to be very clean (or sterile) when transferring and injecting liquid meds like this.

I know this is a bit off topic but I just got my prescription for Imitrex injections, 4 mg. I received 8 doses or 16 shots per fill. I have 5 fills left. So 96 shots, I pay 15 dollars per fill, is that good? I would also like to know if there is way to take to 2 mg as well without using a different syringe.
