Title: Educating my fellow students about ch
Post by sandie99 on Apr 8th, 2012 at 4:27am
I begun my practical nurse studies in January. During a recent lecture about pain, our teacher asked each and everyone of us to tell about our experiences with pain.

Naturally, I talked about ch.

I told them that I've been both episodic and chronic and now episodic again. I told them about the amount of pain, the hits, the cycles, how it was for me.

During another class, I told them about oxygen as a pain relief for ch - we were discussing the use of oxygen then.

I'm pretty sure that they are thrilled that the work period begins after next week, because I feel like telling them more and more about ch every day! ;)

The truth is, not that many people know about ch back in here. The teacher is a nurse, but I'm not entirely sure if the word ch meant something to her. I need to check that. My fellow students might not recall anything once the term ends and they begin their six weeks training, but I had to tell them about ch.

After all, when term ends, my maternity leave begins and this is my only chance to educate these students about ch. Some of them will be working with elderly, some with dentists, some will become paramedics, some work at reception... the practical nurses will cover a wide field and I'm pretty sure that one day one of them will meet another clusterhead. Maybe then they will remember.

PF days to all,
Sanna

Sanna, is it possible to show them the video of Chuck getting hit?  If so..I guarantee they aren't going to forget the sight of that.  EVER!

Linda,
I actually shared one version of that video via Facebook and made a special message to my classmates, I hope they will watch it. One of them already replied and she probably has.

And you're right; I've seen that video of Chuck getting hit several times and it is unforgettable. it used to make me shadow almost instantly, even off-cycle. It is that powerful material.

I always make a point of mentioning to any medical person I interact with about CH. I've been surprised by just how many people have heard of it, but only to a very limited depth.

I've tried to leave them knowing just a bit more about it, knowing that it might help someone with CH that they encounter in the future.
