Title: Serious - Be VERY Careful with your Scripts..
Post by BarbaraD on Apr 19th, 2012 at 9:12am
Had an incident yesterday that shook us all up here.

Most of you know that my grandson Caleb suffers from "stomach" migraines. Well, yesterday was a bad day (enough to go to the doc to make sure it wasn't appendix ). The doc didn't have a clue about headaches, so he prescribed phenobarb - ok.. it'll quiet him down - maybe.

Buddy (Idiot son) goes to Wallyworld to pick up script.. problem with insurance - huh? After he checks why, it's an antidepressant and the dose is higher than the insurance will allow - huh? That's NOT what the doc told ME.

DIL went bezerk when he called her - NO WAY are we giving him antidepressants... (Granny agreed and WHY would the doc do that - luckily the clinic was closed by now..)

Buddy goes back to the pharmacy and gets another "assistant" who tries to explain that the script was called in last Friday (wrong!!!) and he starts telling them that something is not right here... When they get to checking - THIS IS NOT CALEB's script at all but another Caleb Henderson (not the same birthday and NOT the same middle initial).

After Buddy quit shaking.. he got the damn phenobarb (which hasn't helped the migraine at all) and came home.

So a warning to all.... check your damn scripts and make sure you're getting what the doctor ordered (and make sure you ASK the doctor what he's ordering before you go to the pharmacy). I haven't written my protest to Walmart yet - I'm in a cooling off mode right now. I've still got a 10 year old yelling bloody murder with his stomach..  :-*

We had a similar thing happen a few years ago when my youngest was just a little young'un.  She had an irritation in her eye that the Dr prescribed some drops for.  We went to the pharmacy, got the drops, and went home.   Just before administering them Linda read the warnings for some reason and found the line that said "Do NOT put in eyes."  The pharmacy had given the wrong med.  Had we put them in Sarah's eyes she would now be blind.  Needless to say, we now check every script and every med before taking it.

Good reminder Barb.

A few times I've been given the wrong medication or the wrong dosage, so every time I now check to see that what I've been given is exactly what I expect it to be.

Yes once about 20 some years ago at Walgreens we were given a heart med perscription by mistake because the older man got my little Joshua's meds by mistake and they were giving us the older Josh's.  Good thing I cought it instantly.  I had fun straightening them out and once I became aware of another man existing with the same name I always double checked his meds.  Thank God Caleb is alright.

Not fun Barb. Snarl........

The older I get, the more I realize what infants my medical types are. I'm 25 years older than one of my doctors.

I've been lucky though with my drug store. It's done very well by me so far.

It's scary though and nice going Barb.

I had a Duane Reade in NYC give me someone else's cancer meds.  I caught the error and gave them back, but the thought of someone going without them (and taking my useless prescription) still haunts me.
