Title: How long for imitrex nasal relief? Post by ariel on Apr 19th, 2012 at 5:59pm
Hello, I will be getting some Imitrex nasal spray soon & I was just wondering what some people's response to it has been, such as whether 5mg was enough, or 2- 5mg sprays or if you needed the 20mg. I really want to know how long it takes to work, if it has for anyone, compared to when you take a shot. I would much prefer the shots, of course, but unfortunately I am almost out, and glaxo will help with the nasal sprays, but not with injections on the patient asst. program. Thanks.

15 years ago when I was first diagnosed, I was prescibed them. Though I dont remember the dosage, I recall them to be only effective about half the time. It took about 20 mins to abort when it did work. Since my hits typically last only 30 mins to an hour, I quit filling the prescribtion, and just rode it out. God I dont miss those days before the shots. I hope you have better luck, sucks you cant get the shots.

I don't have the imitrex spray, but I do have the Migranal spray...it's a DHE derivative. It takes about 15 minutes for me, but it's advantage (again for me) is it lasts about 24-36 hours in keeping the beast at bay, as opposed to about 6-8 hours when using the trex injection. Here's hoping you get the same longer lasting relief. Blessings. lance

Thank you. I wish I could switch to that, I just don't know how to get through the 24 hours between using the imitrex & dhe. I will have to talk with my doctor about that, if I don't get anywhere while in Cleveland. I have done a search of this site, and it seems like there is a pretty mixed result with the imitrex nasal. I guess I'll just have to try it & see.
