Title: What are your plans for the 4th?
Post by Linda_Howell on Jun 30th, 2012 at 7:19pm
The General board here,  used to be used solely for personal/fun stuff and a lot of us would like to bring that back.  We decided as a group a LONG ago, that we all naturally need to get off the constant worrying about our heads..the need for a sense of humor, to have some other forum to de-stress.  If you look in the archives, you will laugh yourselves silly at some of the topics we've explored.

Not that this is silly, but I thought I'd start a topic that we frequently start about plans we make.

The temps in Kentucky where I live have been in the 110 range, so it pretty miserable outside and there is a burn ban for fireworks, so I don't think we'll be doing much besides trying to stay cool indoors, but I'd like to live vicariously through others.    What will y'all be doing that's fun?     :)

I'll have a beer for ya.

And perhaps another.

Been a nice wet sping in the Northwest - so will head to a reservation for some fireworks and burn a good wad of US greenbacks in my driveway - plus a BBQ.

Enjoy

Celebrate our newly-acquired, constitutionally guaranteed freedoms?

Driving 88 year old Aunt Shirley to her hair appointment . . . HONEST!  Nothing stops Shirley from getting her hair done every other Wednesday.  Who cares if it's Independence Day - gotta wait for Shirl - we've decided to find it amusing!

Too dry and hot up here for much else, so I won't mind.

We're taking the hot rod over to Bryce Canyon for the 4th parade and celebration.

Christy is burning up some of her Marriott Miles and taking me on a 3 day "stay-cation" at the downtown convention center on the bay. We can walk down from our room, watch the big fireworks display over the bay, and then walk back to our hotel without having to drive amongst all the drunken revelers!

Designate a driver and have a safe 4th everyone. If you insist on driving drunk, at least designate your organs as donors so something good may come outta your crashes!

Everybody in town who could do so has already headed north on 55 for the mountains.

There's a lot of territory up there, so it isn't bad when they spread out, but the bottleneck of RV's, horse trailers, beered revelers and armed yahoos on the only north/south highway of any significance in Idaho can be truly astonishing.  Whee.

So--as on most holiday weekends--we've opted to stay in Boise.  We'll get out of Dodge when Dodge has come back to town.  ;-)

I'm a bit concerned about the potential for fires around here on this pyrotechnic holiday...  It's really hot and dry.

Best,

George

Joe this is such a great idea.  Hope you have a good time.

Bob, happy to hear the hot rod is finally finished.  I think you were still working on it last time we talked.

Taking a 5 day *weekend* and painting my kitchen on at least 2 of those days.

Too hot and dry here to do much of anything else (guess I could do a rain dance if I could find a buzzard feather).

Strange that it's actually hotter in Kentucky and Tennessee than it is here.

No plans here for the 4th.  :( Auban has to be at work at 4am on the 5th, so we can't really go out and see anything go "boom".

I may just tell him that I'm taking the day off to sleep in...he can get up with the dog!

I know.  I'm ready to move back to Calif. for the duration.  It's only in the low 80's there.

Everybody stay safe out there, especially on the roads and with fireworks.
When my son was 18 he was burned severely from fireworks.  Many, many 1000's of dollars  and a few skin graft surgeries later he survived, so I don't like this holiday at all.. not because of what our independance signifies, but for all the stupid, preventable tragedies that come with it.

Thought we'd celebrate a few hours before 4th with a 7.0 earthquake!

Seems no real damage, but it was fun as it built up, getting stronger and stronger before easing off about 2 minutes later.

Just bought my explosives from the reservation.  Show starts at dusk - a couple of beers and then lots of noise.  If I get a headache it will most likely be a different kind tomorrow night.  Enjoy all and be safe.

Annual patriotic parade in the morning, fun in the sun at my best friend CH'er (RTD) house...swimming/volleyball/bbq during the day, followed by watching city fireworks looking down from the foothills of the Las Vegas valley.  Should be lots of fun!

Happy 236th Birthday America! ;)

We here in Boston thought an evacuation of 500,000 people from the esplenade right before the fireworks would be different.

It was.

We used out hilton honors points to stay free for 3 days in Green Bay.  Toured the Packers Pro Shop and got some gifts.  Then spent the majority of the time at church family camp listing to morning teachings and evening evangelist preaching.  It was about 110 inside the tabernacle with no air conditioning just fans.  They kept it real short and to the point.  I was glad to be staying in an air conditioned hotel and not camping on the grounds.  Had lots of fun though.

A simple backwoods cookout listening to bullfrogs at the pond and then some scary stories 'round the campfire.

Good friends, good food, dip in the pool, a campfire. Life is good.

The axe was for anyone trying to steal my scallops wrapped in bacon.

The last picture looks alarming, is this a new cure for CH which involves roasting your feet over a fire?

Mind you, if it works, send instructions!

So it's not just the flames...it's the toe-nail polish that works as the abortive???
