I am currently researching cluster headaches at uni as part of my final year thesis and if any CH sufferers would like to share any thoughts on a potential cause(s) and treatments which really work, then I would be very grateful!!!

Nothing really works. Migraine hand me downs and doctors practicing medicine is what we get.

Cluster Headaches are quite rare and outside the box for most Doctors.

Some top preventative meds:
Verapamil
Lithium
Topamax

Top abortive meds:

Oxygen with NON-rebreather mask at minimum 15LPM flow. Recent research shows 25LPM and higher is much better. Many CH sufferers that said O2 doesn't work have found it does at the higher settings.

Imitrex, injections or inhaler, not the pills.
Zomig
Migranal
DHE-45
Zyrexa
Narcotics- help very few patients
