Title: bora + imitrex from india via canada
Post by womper on Feb 6th, 2013 at 4:16pm
I apologize in advance for the long post. I just ended a 10 year remission with a nasty cycle. was getting hit at 2 p.m. and 2 a.m.  Doc put me on imitrex inhalers and said he would look into setting me up with O2. whew expensive, $200 for 6 single dose inhalers. then i found (argh it won't let me post the link) globalpharmacycanada. only $20 for 10 doses (thank you american pharma system for taking more than 10x the $$). the only drawback is that it takes 3 weeks to arrive, but now i'm more stocked up. anyway, i would get that 2 p.m. attack at work, snort the imitrex and not only would it kill that headache, it also would take out the 2 a.m. headache. this went on for a week, then i got a surprise 8 p.m. headache and a worse surprise when the imitrex did absolutely nothing. the doc and the instructions did say no more than 40mg in 24 hours and that was my 3rd 20mg dose within 24 hours. while riding it out i tried some of the other suggestions i've read or used in the past. thinking of the O2 that seems to work so well for so many, i grabbed an old air purifier that generates both ionized and ozone-ated (O3) air, cranked it up and put my face in it. after 5 minutes the headache totally backed off. at this point i didn't know if it was the O3, any of the other desperate things i'd tried, or just the natural end of the headache. but when the beast woke me up at 2 a.m. i did the same thing and yay, after 5 minutes headache went away. then the same thing happened at 4 a.m. and 6 a.m.  I took the machine with me to work. when i felt cluster coming on i breathed it for 5 minutes and no more headache. i tried it with the ozone turned off and did feel some relief with the ionized air only, but it seemed much better with the ozone. the machine i use is a Bora by Living Air. the company doesn't exist anymore. after a couple of changes they are now vollara, but they don't make the bora. i cannot vouch for any of the machines that they make now, but i did see that the bora is available for cheap on ebay, etc. Anyway i haven't had to take imitrex since this discovery and the cycle diminished and went away after another week. For what it's worth, that's my story. Hope it may help somebody.

Have a look at the oxygen information page - START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE.

Using a high flow rate (15lpm+) and a non-rebreater mask is a good way to kill off CHs. My set up has a 25lpm regulator and I can use it to kill off mine in under 5 minutes.

Are you using any preventives? Something like verapamil, lithium, topomax or similar? These can help cut down how many CHs you get.

Have you looked at the vitamin D3 method that a lot of us are using to great effect? Read up about it at START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE.

Hmmm, I wonder at the wisdom of using ozone instead of pure O2. This, from wikipedia:

Quote:
Ozone is a powerful oxidant (far more so than dioxygen) and has many industrial and consumer applications related to oxidation. This same high oxidizing potential, however, causes ozone to damage mucus and respiratory tissues in animals, and also tissues in plants, above concentrations of about 100 parts per billion. This makes ozone a potent respiratory hazard

I could be wrong but it sounds potentially harmful. Did you research this at all? blessings. lance

The MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for ozone makes interesting reading - START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE.

Quote:
Emergency Overview
---------------------------------
Highly reactive, ozone concentrations above 15% can explode on contact with organic substances, especially strong reducing agents.

Ozone is a powerful oxidizing agent and oxidation with ozone evolves more heat and usually starts at a lower temperature than oxidation with oxygen. It reacts with non-saturated organic compounds to produce ozonides, which are unstable and may decompose with explosive violence. Ozone is an unstable gas which, at normal temperatures, decomposes to diatomic oxygen. At elevated temperatures and in the presence of certain catalysts such as hydrogen, iron, copper and chromium, this decomposition may be explosive.

Potential Health Effects
----------------------------------
Inhalation: Causes dryness of the mouth, coughing, and irritates the nose, throat, and chest. May cause difficulty in breathing, headache, and fatigue. The characteristic sharp, irritating odor is readily detectable at low concentrations (0.01 to 0.05 ppm).

Skin: Absorption through intact skin is not expected.

Eye Contact: Ozone is an irritant to the eyes causing pain, lacrimation, and general inflammation.

Ingestion: Not a route of exposure.

Aggravation of Pre-existing Conditions:
Ozone may increase sensitivity to bronchoconstrictors including allergens.

Not sure it is something that I'd want to expose myself to by choice.

My wife is very sensitive to smoke, so we have been using various O3 air purifiers for 20 years, with none of the harmful effects you mention. I'm sure it is a much lower concentration of O3 than what you referenced. The only comment we've ever gotten is how fresh the air smells. Taking an O2 tank with me to work doesn't seem like a viable alternative. Like I wrote in my original post, my relief may be due to the ionized air and have nothing to do with the ozone. Most importantly for me, I've had quick relief without having to take any drugs. But hey, everybody's different. I'd be interested in hearing if anyone else has any experience with this.
