It’s a vitamin/mineral/fish oil supplement, all over the counter stuff. It’s up to an 81% success rate of those who try it and respond to the survey so you’re just shooting yourself in the foot if you don’t give it a shot. I’m 3 years pain free on it after a 30 plus year track record with episodic CH. Best of all, it’s healthy for you even without CH!

What follows is an excerpt from the link:

As of January 20, 2013, the compiled raw data indicates an efficacy of 80%. 240 out of the 300 CH'ers who have started this regimen and stayed on it for a month or more have experienced a significant reduction in the frequency and severity of their CH... 78% of the 300 CH'ers experienced a pain free response and 60% of the 300 have remained essentially pain free. Episodic and chronic CH'ers respond to this regimen at roughly the same rate.

Preliminary survey results indicate most of these CH'ers were pain free before the end of the third week with some responding in a little as 12 to 24 hours. The average time to respond is five days

While not a cure, when you see somehting working for 80% of sufferers, ya gotta check it out! ;)

Triggers. Well, for most, flying hasn't been a trigger but could it? Sure, it could have kicked off a cycle. More likely, in my not so expert opinion, is it was just time. They come when you least expect them and when it is most inconvenient. That's part of their charm.   >:(  Let us know if we can help in any way. blessings. lance

Hi mjm and all, Flying is definitely a trigger for me every time. It has caused the starts of many cycles and attacks during cycles. It must be something to do with  air pressure. There was a time when I used to fly every month at least and during that time I was getting no break in CH. I now always make sure I have my Zolmitriptan (Zomig) in my pocket when i board a plane and sure enough, i need it every time. I am in the middle of a cycle now and have to fly next week, I'm really not looking forward to it as the attacks are very very strong when i fly. I'll take the zomig just before i board, just like i do before i go to sleep at night. My worst attacks come 40 minutes to an hour after i fall asleep. During a cycle if I don't take zomig before i fall asleep, when i wake due to the pain, the pain is already very strong (I sleep very deeply as the start of the night so when the pain wakes me it is usually at 6 or 7/10) and as it can take an hour or more for the zomig to  work when i take it at such an advance stage, the pain can reach 9 or 10/10 before it eventually goes.
MJM, perhaps you need to take the medication that works for you before a flight.
Wishing you all the best  :)

I fly just under 100 times a year and it has never triggered a CH or migraine for me. In fact it seems to work as a preventive for me. Which just shows how some triggers like this can be very individual.

Greetings and Welcome!!

After a remission period of about 1.5 years I travelled to the P.R.C. on January 20 with my wife for Chinese new year. Flights over and back ( 2 flights, ~ 18 hrs total air time each way) caused no problems. Flying has never been a trigger for me as far as I know.

However, just as spring time began over there in mid/late February  I began a new cycle. There are any number of reasons why that cycle could have begun...

I returned here to south central Indiana just after the first day of spring (more northern latitude), and so far no attacks. We will see...

I did approximately the same travel  routine back in 2010-11 (October2010 - January 2012). Had a few attacks while in P.R.C. and a severe extended attack cycle upon return to Indiana (almost six months duration).

What I do know is that this site has a plethora of information regarding our condition and is a great resource for you, your primary care giver neuro specialist, etc.

The anecdotal information provided by our fellow CH sufferers allowed me to quickly diagnosis what I needed to do in order to break my most recent cycle, as well as control,  and hopefully correct this condition in a permanent fashion (People around here seem to scoff at the word cure, so I am very hesitant to use it at this point).

Many people here are reporting permanent relief from the vitamin/mineral regimen. It is certainly worth consideration, especially when compared to the other pharmacological options.

Of course most everyone has success with pure O2 as an abortive. (see related posts)

CH is multi faceted in it's presentation, and therefore requires a multifaceted approach for successful long term treatment.

Hope you are keeping up on current treatment options and that you are getting as much pain free time as possible.

Peace Of Mind
