Greetings, I am starrting another cluster and have limited imitrex on hand. Expecting this cluser to last about four months with about three to four headaches a day. Currently use Imitrex, and prednisone periodically. Wondering if anyone knew of another drug that helps?
Over the counter or prescribed, does not matter. I am willing to try anything.

steve,  check out Batchs vitamin D3 regimen, listed at 123 days pain free, etc.   I think many clusterheads are having great success with it.  It also doesnt cost much.  also,  maybe verapamil? ;)

First, check the oxygen info button to the left of your screen.  (in yellow)  O2 is an abortive that is for most people as fast or faster than Imitrex, and it has not bad side effects, plus it doesn't cause rebounds.

Second, 5hr Energy, Red Bull, Monster, etc. can be used at first sign of an attack to knock it back.  If I get it early enough I can knock one out in about 5 mins.  If I get it later it will knock it down a few numbers.  Combined with O2 it can knock one out right away and prevent shadowing.

It is my firm belief based on over 35 yrs dealing with this stuff, another drug is the last thing you need!  Prescribed drugs took me from episodic to chronic and left me with side effects that have continued for over 8 yrs after I quit using them.

Tell us more about your prednisone. There might be a better way.

Are you using a preventive med--at the proper dose?
