Title: Random Hit (hopefully)
Post by Joshua on Apr 22nd, 2013 at 11:22am
Been PF for 6 months.  Just got hit with a minor attack, wasn't going away, trex injected it.
.
Hoping it's not a harbinger of more to come.  Anyone ever get "one-off's" or am I trying to get off too easy?   ;)

Hi Joshua, sorry to hear about your recent attack. I am afraid that i have never got 1 off attacks. Whenever i got an attack after being PF for some time, it indicated the start of a cycle. I hope this is not the case for you and that you'll remain PF.
All the best

Not too many things you can do to generate anxiety than to try and predict the future!

Bob- as soon as I posted this I knew you were going to come back with just that reply. At least I predicted that!  But yes, you're 100% right.

One thing about this board is that I see a WIDE variety of experiences from one person to the next in how different people experience this awful affliction. With that being said, here's a bit of mine...

I have actually had a "one-off" here and there since this thing first started. In fact, the very first one I had was ALL I had that year. Of course, I didn't get lucky enough for that first one to be the ONLY one I ever had. I've had many since then, and I have since learned to keep a headache journal so that I can keep track of all of my attacks and other info.

Now, for me, these "one-offs" that I have actually had have always been out of what has been my normal cycle. My actual cycles have always been within the spring and summer months. And, I have always gotten a couple of years or so of pain-free years between the cycle years. In other words, the "one-offs" were always in the fall/winter months, and they seemed to just come out of nowhere.

Another thing I noticed, in my case, was that these "one-offs" were quite mild compared to what I typically experience during an actual cycle. They were generally more like Kip 3 to 4 (maybe a 5 before, but I'd have to check the journal). And, of course, I'd have only the one, so there was no "cycle" to speak of. They came outta nowhere, and left just as mysteriously.

So, is it possible to have a "one-off" and not be a sign of things to come? For me, the answer would be yes if I weren't in the prime-time cycle months, of course. It'd be difficult to say whether you should get your hopes up that this would be the case for you. But, I really hope you get that lucky, my friend.
