Title: Imitrex
Post by BWit on May 31st, 2013 at 12:24am
I have been suffering from episodic clusters for over 13 years. For me, prednisone works for the most part, but can have serious side effects over time. Oxygen only helps when the pressure first begins to build, and even then it's hit or miss. Exercise can decrease the general pressure, but doesn't do a damn thing once the real pain begins. The only thing that has been able to stop the pain dead in its tracks is imitrex. It took years for the headaches to be properly diagnosed, and several years after that before I was introduced to this lifesaver. I have taken it in two forms - subcutaneous injection (generally in the thigh) and pills. The injection works within minutes, the pills take slightly longer but are more work appropriate. The only time in 13 years I have experienced no pain, no pressure, no hint of a headache, are the minutes to hours after taking sumatriptan (imitrex). If you have not yet tried it, ask your doctor if it is an option. It is the only thing that has ever helped me.

Curious as to HOW you used the oxygen. Slight modifications in HOW 02 is used can dramatically increase it's abort rate. I all but abandoned imitrex after getting a demand valve set up for my oxygen. Check out this link just to make sure you're getting the maximum benefit from your 02:

Doesn't work for 100% of CH'ers....hell what does! :D :D But given the cost/benefit it might be worth re visting.

Follow this link to the medications section of this board and read the post

It’s a vitamin/mineral/fish oil supplement, all over the counter stuff. It’s up to an 81% success rate of those who try it and respond to the survey so you’re just shooting yourself in the foot if you don’t give it a shot. I’m 3 years pain free on it after a 35 plus year track record with episodic CH. Best of all, it’s healthy for you even without CH!

As of January 20, 2013, the compiled raw data indicates an efficacy of 80%. 240 out of the 300 CH'ers who have started this regimen and stayed on it for a month or more have experienced a significant reduction in the frequency and severity of their CH... 78% of the 300 CH'ers experienced a pain free response and 60% of the 300 have remained essentially pain free. Episodic and chronic CH'ers respond to this regimen at roughly the same rate.

Preliminary survey results indicate most of these CH'ers were pain free before the end of the third week with some responding in a little as 12 to 24 hours. The average time to respond is five days
