Title: Tooth extraction relieves CH. Post by Hoppy on Jun 20th, 2013 at 8:16pm
Source.
Division of otolaryngology-head and neck surgury, department of surgury, University of Wisconsin school of medicine and public health. Abstract. A 60 year old man with a 7yr history of CH's was seen by an oral surgeon for evaluation of pain in the left upper second molar ipsilateral to the side affected by the headaches. during extraction of the tooth, infection, decay, and inflammation were discovered. Since the extraction in Nov 2008 the patient has experienced one episode of CH's as of April 2013. I wonder if this means a visit to the Dentist?. [smiley=JAW_DROP.gif] |

on the flip side of the coin: I've had my head looked about a ton of different ways, and no infections have been found. So extraction probably won't help me.
I mean it might be worth looking into, but this man may have had something other than CH |

So the patient had CH, had a tooth out which revealed infection and then continued to have CH afterwards. So the tooth removal clearly did not cause the CH. And from a sample of one it is impossible to draw any reliable statistics as to if it helped in any ways. |

I agree, best keep all your teeth whilst you can. |

It is sad how many people have had teeth pulled hoping that would end the pain! :D

I'd been 25 years wrestling this monster and then came my first ever lefty. Never recognised it for what it was so got a bad tooth out on that side.
Instant relief!!! Six hours later I realised the error of my ways and what a sneaky beastie we live with. |

Funny that this topic comes up, this is how my trip down this road began in 1996. I won't bore you with all the details except to say a diet of sockeye salmon 4 days a week may have something to do with it. Crazy bad headaches, pulled that bad tooth, slept like a baby that night, next night, guess who came back with a vengeance, my dentist was suspicious and sent me to a neurologist and I got my diagnosis of CH. A bad tooth can create a monster headache, even seem like an aneurysm but I don't think they cause CH 's.

I can sort of relate to a bit of this.
last octoberish, I had a bad tooth, typical me left it to long, went to the dentist, got the bad news, left it to long, so either an extraction or a route canal. didn't want to loose the tooth, so agreed to a route canal. between the process, it got infected, was given antibiotics, the beast came, once the antibiotics kicked in, the beast disappeared. boy that really made me happy. a route canal is bad enough to deal with, without the beast as well. maybe the inflammation kicked or awoke the beast, I don't know. when I first got diagnosed with ch's. the doctor actually blood tested me and at the time my inflammation was off the scale, they could tell by the blood test, so he prescribed prednisone and sent me to a neurologist. took 6 months to get to see one, so, 6 months of prednisone tapers. didn't actually know what I had until the neurologist told me and boy did that stuff knock me around. would have been nice if the doctor had prescribed verapamil or some sort of preventative over the interim, but Im thankfull he at least sent me to a specialist. wouldn't it be nice if all g.p's had some basic knowledge of our affliction or at least know the basic's of cluster maintenance !! thank god for this place !!! regards colin |
