I was unlucky enough to be diagnosed with a blood clot in my leg a week ago. So I've been put on warfarin tablets and been given heparin injections daily. But since I've been on warfarin I've not had a cluster headache and normally I get 5-6 a day and I was wondering if anyone else had a anything simulair happen. Please let me know

Based on a previous report, we gave oral anticoagulants to three patients with chronic cluster headache. Two of them remained cluster headache-free while taking warfarin. In the third patient, the use of warfarin for three weeks initially increased the frequency and intensity of cluster headache attacks but subsequently induced a prolonged remission. In spite of the paucity of data available, oral anticoagulation appears to be a promising therapy for chronic cluster headache.

Years ago Warfarin was mentioned a couple of times here but then disappeared as a topic. Quick scan of the U.S. national medical library poppped up two citations, related to Cluster, beween 2005-2011.

No evidence that it's a treatment which has gained attention.

There was a really good RCT study published 2011 about "Warfarin for Refractory Chronic Cluster Headache: A Randomized Pilot Study."
