Title: D3 treatment question from college student
Post by Denim101 on Jul 8th, 2013 at 12:49am
Hello all,
I've been lurking around for a couple years and decided last week to join when my cycle returned. I live in Chicago and it got really hot for a few weeks and then we suddenly got a "cold front" that lasted a week. When the heat returned I got a cold followed by a headache that started my cycle. I think the weather triggers my cycle to begin since I usually get them in the spring/fall when the weather begins to change.

Anyways, my question is about the D3 treatment. Currently, I take 10mg of melatonin before bedtime and I take 400mg of magnesium citrate and 12000 IU of D3 TWICE daily, once in the morning and at night. I've had a few headaches since starting the regimen, but today's wasn't bad at all, but I see that I am missing two other supplements. Being that I am a college student and am on a tight budget, (seriously, those ramen noodle stories you here about are totally true) I can only afford one more supplement til payday :-[ Which one should I buy first, the fish oil or the calcium or am I screwed? And should I be taking these supplements all at once, or is it ok that I split it in two?

I'm SO glad I found this forum and I am truly grateful for all the info I've learned here!!! :)

G'day Denim,
I see you have started some of the D3 Regime, but for it to
have any effect you need to take the whole Regime all at
the same time with your main meal of the day.I realise your
on a tight budget so get the calcium first, you also need to
get Centrum Silver Vitamins, then you need only take one
tab/200mg of the calcium citrate, the K2mk7 is  in the Centrum. I am curious, have you seen a headache speciallist
to verify you have CH's,Spring and Fall are known times
for CH's, so by that alone you fit the picture. But it would
still be wise to check there is no underlying problem.

PS, I note you are taking 25,000iu of VD daily, the norm
is 10,000iu, then up it if your still getting headaches.

Hoppy.

You could probably stand to lower your daily dosage a bit, which could help with budgeting. See Batch's thread for the details on what the concentration needs to be and certain factors that could affect the absorption of D3 into your system.

Where on earth did you come up with this? I take the calcium and zinc in the morning, magnesium in the evening, and the D3 and fish oil split morning and evening. Been pain free for over a year.

How long have you been taking this dose?Taking 24,000iu daily will most likely make your D3 level continue to climb. That's the reason to get the 25 ohd lab tests done to get yourself into the 60 to 110 ng/ml range then maintain a level around 85 ng/ml to get the benefits from the regimen. After you are in the proper range it seems that most men take a 15,000iu daily dose to maintain a steady level however each person is different. Getting your lab test every month or every other month to start is a very important part of the regimen so you can maintain safe and effective levels. After maintaining a regular dosing schedule and knowing where your level is then get your 25 ohd test every 4 months as recommended... Best of luck...:)

Thanks all for the replies, I've only been taking the supplements for a few days now, so I'll go ahead and lower my D3 dosage and add the calcium.

I was diagnosed with CH about six years ago, and I've taken topomax, imitrex, relpax, frova, and vicodin over the years those drugs just leave me drained, foggy and forgetful after taking them, so this natural treatment is a welcome relief.

Batch recommends you take the whole Regime with your
main meal of the day to achieve the best outcome.

I think you're misinterpreting him. The D3, which is a fat-soluble vitamin, is best absorbed with a meal containing some fat. It doesn't mean take the entire thing at once, one time a day.
