Title: Afraid to go outside...
Post by Denim101 on Jul 9th, 2013 at 7:52am
Whenever I step outside for more than 20 minutes I get hit with a CH! This has happened now four times in a row. I was talking to my roommate, who suffers from migraines, and she said that it could be the air pressure. We keep our apartment cooled during the summer heat, and for the most part I'm fine when I'm inside, though I still get CHs, but anytime I'm outside I'm guaranteed to be hit with one!

Anyone else have this problem? I have to walk to the el train to get to work/ school, but I always end up coming right back home, and now I'm kind of worried about going outside.

The sun....bright in my eyes...is a sometimes trigger. Especially if I'm driving into the sun.  Decent sunglasses maybe????

Are you using a preventive med, such as Verapamil?

If not, talk to your doc; if yes, may need to increase the dose.

Sun is a trigger for me. I have to wear sunglasses if I'm out for more than an hour on a moderately overcast day and about five minutes on a really sunny day. I don't know that the pressure inside your home would be significantly different from the pressure outside, unless your house is sealed well and you have a positive pressure ventilation system. It could be a problem for some, though. Heat is often a trigger for people. I know I like a cool, dark room when I'm hit. Maybe you could try going into a back yard when you don't have to go to work, with sunglasses and without to see if there's a difference. Try a shady area and full sun. Put a cool, damp towel on your neck and try it without. In short, get scientific on the Beast's a$$. In the long run, it could save you a great deal of pain and make outings a lot less stressful -- and we all know stress is among the Beast's favourite meals. (I'm in Canada, we spell favourite that way here. lol)

Good luck and pain free years,

rep

Its hard to live between hits. I wanna go out and do stuff but am in fear I'm gonna get a hit while I'm out which usually happens.  As for outside I don't know if that effects me.

The sunglasses idea helped a lot. I've realized that I do a ton of squinting, so maybe I need to have my eyes examined for a stronger prescription.

I can remember a long time ago i had to see yet another
doc for some meds because my job kept me away from
home a lot, he said my headaches were caused through
eye strain he gave me a referal for a eye test and then
after some hesitation he gave me my script for Migral.
I got my eyes tested said i needed glasses still got CHs
hav'nt worn glasses since. Eye strain is known to cause
headaches but not CHs. There is a vitamin for eye strain
called Multi Vision brand name Bioglan.

Why do we still not know whether refractive error causes headaches?
Towards a framework for evidence based practice.

Abstract

In this paper, we systematically review the available experimental and clinical evidence concerning the causation of headache by refractive error.

Despite the apparent belief of both medical and optometric professionals that provision of an appropriate correction may alleviate various types of headache, there is little if any robust evidence in support of this position.

We identify four serious methodological and theoretical difficulties with studies to date, which currently render it impossible to assess the relationship between refractive error and headache.

The provision by the International Headache Society of the diagnostic category "headache associated with refractive error" is called into question. Five research questions are posited in the form of a framework for the development of evidence-based practice in optometry and the treatment of headache.
