Title: Trying the D3 Reg, Started last nite.
Post by metrolamar on Aug 30th, 2013 at 5:24pm
These CH have been slamming me for the past 6 weeks now,  The doc put me on Topamax for 4 weeks at the start of this cycle to give it a try.  Topamax is not the right med for me.  It turned me into a zombie kinda.  As you all know I am not sleeping much if any at night and the Topamax was making me tired as crap.  I could not function at all, when I went back for the 4 week follow up visit doc took me off of it (I was taking 100mg a day) cold turkey.  For the past two days I have been experiencing some withdrawls but not too bad.

He wrote a script for Elavil but I am reading about this D3 and it seems more promising to me.  The Elavil has the same side effect of being tired. Is anyone here on Elavil?

I could type all evening about what these headaches have done to me. or stolen from me.  I am 37 years old and they started at age 20.

I couldn't take Elavil at all.. couldn't stay awake.

Topamax was my silver bullet BUT I took it at night and never had the tired feeling or any side effects. It really helped me. I'm on zonagran now (300mg). It has the same effects as Topamax but without the side effects. AND I take it at night so I've not had any side effects.

I take 10mg of melatonin at night and sleep at night. I stay awake fine during the day without any effects from the meds. Also take 15,000mg of D3.

I'm chronic and right now am pretty much under control. Use O2 when I get hit (and I do).

But I did find out years and years ago that taking the FULL dose of my meds at night made me skip all the side effects (guess you sleep them off before morning or something) and it's worked well with me thru the years. Except the Elavil.. never could shake that one.. even on very small dose I just couldn't stay awake.

But what  works for one doesn't work for the next -- so keep trying and find your magic bullet. Good luck and keep us informed. BTW - have you got O2?  :-*

Hey Barbara,
I have not even went to get the Elavil filled.  Coming off the Topamax was pretty rough,  and I can not be messed up all the time.  After a few days off the Topamax I am feeling better...not as tired and out of it.
I have been taking the vitamins that Batch is posting about and so far I am still getting Headaches all through the night.  I will say that last night the hits were more manageable and I was able to abort with O2 pretty quickly.  Batch has been staying in touch with me...He is a nice guy.  I hope he knows how much it means to Me.
So for now I am going to stay the D3 course for a couple weeks and hope for pf days (Batch is confident that they are coming).
Barbara have you tried the D3?  If so did it work for you?

Yep, I take my D3 at night also along with the zonogran. (I got off the Topamax a few years ago and was fine for a couple of months and then the sledge hammer hit me and I promised my neuro if I EVER did that again he had permission to hit me over the head with a baseball bat - and I took him the bat - geezz I was messed up - he still has the bat and always asks me if he needs to use it, but recommends the D3 also).

But get you some Melatonin and start on it. It will get you thru the REM sleep (where the CH hits) and maybe you'll get some sleep at night. It's helped me a whole lot. I very seldom get hit at night since I got it in my system (and that takes a week or so). No side effects from it. Take it about 30-45 minutes before bedtime and if it doesn't work for a week or so KEEP TAKING it till it begins to work - it will, but has to get in your system. I take 10mg but have been up to 20 when I'm getting hit really bad. It's not going to hurt you and it's OTC. My neuro also recommends it.

And Batch is a really nice guy and knows what he's talking about ... Listen to him.. Don't get your feelings hurt if he yells at you (if you Skype he just might). He yells at me all the time, but I luvs him so I don't take him serious..  :)   :-*
