Title: Wiped out!
Post by painfulnoodle on Sep 22nd, 2013 at 7:28pm
Not the worst hit I've ever had, but never been this wiped out afterwards! It's been over three years since I had a genuine cycle like this ... I'm now 52 ... does age really make them that much worse? Can't keep going down this path.

Hi Red,
Whether it be menopause for women or just older age with men, there are dozens of members on this website who claim they have "aged out" as they no longer experience cycles as they got older.

Not fool proof by any means as there are plenty of CH sufferers that are senior citizens, but general consensus seems to hold some validity to the "age out" theory.

Hang in there! ;)

The one constant for me is I always forget how bad they are until they come back. :-/

Besides being just totally physically wiped out ... I mean I'm having trouble even walking ... I'm totally discouraged. The regiments I've used in the past don't seem to be working ... the new regiment (D3, O2, etc.) doesn't seem to be working ... hell, it took two Trex injections this evening to knock one out ... this aint even funny!

I haven't read all your posts but I have to ask, are you avoiding clusterbusters.com for some reason?

By the way... I am 55, with the beast 38 years, 35 episodic, 3 chronic. I relate to your story. I still keep my fingers crossed about the "age out" thing, but for me it went the other way. Unpredictable is his middle name. clusterbusters.com is worth looking into.

It's quickly becoming a viable option. This is the first cycle I've had in over 3 years. Had hoped they were gone. Hoped my former meds/regiment would work. So far ... notta!

That's pretty much where I got to. Hope you can get that beast under control. Best wishes for PF time.

Hi Red,
As you've unfortunately learned, what works one cycle may not work the next.  This sometimes means increasing dosages, and/or manipulate the combo of treatments in order to obtain a reduction in frequency and also reduction of intensity of attacks.

Have you got your blood test results yet for the Vitamin D levels?  It really is very effective regimen for many people and highly recommend you re-read the protocol and continue with this, especially the loading doses and additional co-factors.

You've mentioned Depakote and Topomax in your posts, have you ever tried Verapamil immediate release form at high dosages?

What flow rate are you using to hyperventilate the o2?

Hang in there! ;)

Thanks guys ... I'm doing the D3, but haven't had my test yet. I'm on the O2 at 8lpm, only because they didn't have the high-flow regulator when I was there last week. Should be in any day. I'm really thinking that's going to help a lot. 8lpm is just not enough. I've never done the Verapamil because my Neuro was a big believer in the Depakote. However, he's 300 miles away now and I'm going to have to get a new one I guess. My PPM has been real receptive to the drugs I've asked for. When I go back for the test I'll see if he'll order me some and try it.

No hits today ... but my ass is still wiped out from two really bad hits yesterday.

Red - 8 LPM is hardly enough of course. No wonder it doesn't help much. But before using double-trex (which is probably why you're wiped out) did you try coffee? Energy drink? Hot/cold pads? These may be much more effective than you might think.

Note that Imitrex is only one of several triptans and other substances of the family (including more distant relatives like LSD, psilocybin etc.) effect different serotonin receptors, and may therefore be better for some.

Good luck!

Yes ... keep Redbull and Mt. Dew in fridge and down them at the first sign of a hit. Same with cold packs.

The new regulator came in today ... going to pick it up tomorrow. It should help.

Hope that high flow regulator proves as magical for you as it has for me. Keep up the fight. ;)

Thanks Joe ... got the new regulator today. Had two hits last night, but I slammed some RedBull, hit the O2 and took a walk and caught them both in time to avoid the bad one. Have felt better today than I have in a week. Hopefully the meds/supplements are kicking in and I can arrest this cycle before it gets any worse!
